Introduction

Welcome to ParkMagnet. We respect your privacy and try to collect only what we need to run the site. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Most visitors simply read park pages. If that's you, we don't ask for or collect information that identifies you. Google Analytics measures your visit, our site stores a random identifier in your browser, and maps, weather, and some images are loaded from other services. The sections below explain each of these, followed by what applies if you comment, like a park, plan a reservation, or work with us as a business.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website, for example how many people visit, which pages are popular, how visitors find us, and what devices and browsers they use. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as browser and device type, approximate location (city level), pages visited, and referring websites.

Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. We do not combine analytics data with information that identifies you personally. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months by default.

Cookies

Our website uses two types of cookies:

Essential cookies: Necessary for the operation of our site. These cookies do not track your activity across other websites.
Analytics cookies: Set by Google Analytics, as described above.

We do not use advertising cookies. Most browsers let you delete or block cookies through their settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.

Information Stored in Your Browser

Our site stores a small amount of information in your browser's local storage:

A random visitor identifier, used for likes and to link your contributions to the site
The name and email you entered, so you don't have to type them again next time
Which parks you have liked

We also use session storage, which is cleared when you close the tab, to understand how visitors use event listings. None of this is used for advertising or to track you across other websites. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings.

Information You Give Us

Comments, photos, and reports

When you post a comment or upload a photo, we collect the name you enter (a nickname is fine) and your email address. Comments are published with the name you enter. Your email address is never shown publicly; we use it only if we need to contact you about your submission. Photos you upload may be published on the site.

When you report incorrect park information, your name and email are optional. We use them only to follow up on your report.

Likes

Liking a park does not require an account. We store a random identifier created by your browser (see above) so that each visitor can like a park only once.

Contact form

When you use our contact form, we collect your name (if provided), email address, and message, and use them to respond to you and to improve the site based on your feedback.

IP addresses

When you submit a comment, photo, report, or like, we record your IP address to prevent spam and abuse.

Reservation planning requests

When you use our reservation planner, we collect your name, email address, the park and city you are interested in, details about your plans (such as the type of event, date, and number of attendees), your answers to follow-up questions, and any messages you send us. For larger events we also ask for your phone number.

We use this information to:

Create your personalized reservation guide
Email you a confirmation and reply to your messages
Forward your inquiry, including your name and contact details, to the relevant park department when we can't answer it ourselves

Your guide is available at a private link. Anyone with that link can view it, so please only share it with people you trust.

Connecting you with event service providers

If you choose to be connected with local event service providers (for example caterers or rental companies), we share your name, email address, phone number, and event details with one provider for each service you select. Each introduction is exclusive: once a provider has received your details, we don't share them with any other provider of that service. The provider may contact you by email or phone. We only do this when you select a service and agree to it.

This is free for you. Providers may pay ParkMagnet a fee for the introduction. Once a provider has your details, their use of them is covered by their own privacy policy. If you no longer want to hear from a provider, please tell them directly, and let us know if you'd like us to stop making introductions.

Some recommendations link to partner websites, which may pay us a commission if you use their services. When you visit a partner website, their privacy policy applies.

Information for Businesses

We work with United States restaurants and event service providers. For these businesses, we collect business contact information from public sources such as business websites, and we check email addresses with an email verification service. We use this information to contact businesses about featured listings and event leads.

Our emails to businesses contain links to personalized pages. We record activity on these pages, such as visits and clicks, to understand interest in our offers. We keep a record of email conversations with businesses, and we may use AI tools to help process replies.

Payments for featured listings and leads are handled by Stripe. We receive the billing email and payment status, but never your card details. If you don't want to hear from us, reply to any of our emails or contact us, and we'll stop.

Service Providers

We use trusted service providers to run the site. They process information only on our behalf:

Website hosting and database services
Email delivery and email address verification
Stripe for payments
Google Analytics for site statistics
Mapbox for maps, a weather service for forecasts, and Amazon Web Services for images

When We Share Information

We share personal information only as described in this policy: with park departments when we forward your inquiry, with event service providers you choose to be connected with, with our service providers, and when required by law. We do not sell mailing lists or share your information for advertising.

Data Retention

We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. Contact form submissions are typically kept no longer than one year. Published comments and photos stay on the site until they are removed. You can ask us to delete your information at any time.

Children

ParkMagnet is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Tell you what personal information we have about you
Correct inaccurate information
Delete your information, including comments and photos
Stop connecting you with event service providers
Stop sending you emails
