About the Location

Historic Origins

Cloverdale Park is a 2.5-acre public green space located in the historic Old Cloverdale neighborhood of Montgomery, Alabama. The park features an elongated layout, stretching along what was once a natural streambed.

This area was originally a clover-covered dale, which likely contributed to the naming of both the park and the surrounding neighborhood. The park's history dates back to the late 19th century, with its layout appearing on an 1892 plat of the area.

Natural Features

One of the park's most notable features is its collection of mature trees, particularly the numerous live oaks that provide ample shade throughout the space. The centerpiece of the park is an iconic live oak tree estimated to be around 200 years old, adding to the area's historic charm.

The park is encircled by one of the few remaining brick streets in Montgomery, further enhancing its historic character. In 2002, the park underwent improvements as part of an Eagle Scout project led by Watson McCollister, which included the addition of Central Park-style benches and other park furniture.

Community Hub

Cloverdale Park serves as a hub for community activities, hosting various events throughout the year. These include exercise groups, youth sports practices, church functions, and the neighborhood's annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

The park's walking track is a popular feature for residents looking to maintain an active lifestyle. Over the years, Cloverdale Park has evolved into a central gathering place for the community, serving various functions from casual recreation to organized events.
