About the Location
Recreational Facilities
Strolling through Dave Rose Park, you'll find well-kept walking paths weaving through open green spaces that are great for a casual afternoon outdoors. There's a playground that's technically designed for kids 5-12, but it's honestly better suited for the littler ones - toddlers up to about 6 years old will have the most fun here.
If you're into sports, the park offers a soccer field and a basketball court to get your game on. We appreciate that the pathways are paved and lit up, making evening walks feel safer and more accessible.
From the 3rd Avenue entrance, you can choose between two paved walkway circles - a shorter loop if you're pressed for time or a longer one if you're looking to stretch your legs a bit more.
Sports Activities
Tucked into the heart of the Mountain View neighborhood is a disc golf course that adds another layer of fun to this community space. One of the park's more unique features is its reputation as a cricket-watching destination.
The cricket matches usually happen on weekends at the dedicated field, offering a glimpse into a sport that's not commonly showcased in Alaska.
Seasonal Activities
When winter blankets Anchorage, the park transforms into a sledding paradise. The designated sledding hill becomes the star attraction during snowy months.
This 14.47-acre community park sits in the Russian Jack neighborhood, providing year-round enjoyment regardless of the weather.
Park Layout and Features
The spaciousness of Dave Rose Park is one of its best qualities - there's plenty of room to spread out and do your own thing. If you're planning a get-together, the picnic area offers ample space for gatherings of friends and family.
Over the years, some wooded areas have been cleared, which has actually improved visibility and made the park feel more open. Generally, the grounds are kept clean, with most dog owners being responsible enough to clean up after their furry friends.
Recent Improvements
The park got a significant upgrade in 2016, including the addition of a proper cricket field. This renovation, backed by the Russian Jack Community Council, created a permanent home for Anchorage's cricket community to host their summer games, sometimes called "Kilikiti."
New fencing around the neighboring high-density housing has also helped keep the park grounds cleaner. The diverse mix of amenities makes this space a real community asset, offering something for just about everyone throughout the year.
Note that there are no public restrooms available in the park, so plan accordingly.
