About the Location
A Brief History
Located in the heart of Anchorage's Fairview community sits a 5.2-acre green oasis known as Fairview Lions Park. Since its establishment in 1985 on what was once the S & S Apartments property, this nearby retreat has evolved into much more than a patch of grass.
Kid-Friendly Fun & Features
The nature-themed playground is a highlight for families with little ones. Installed in 2013, it replaced older equipment to give kids a safer, more enjoyable place to climb, slide, and let their imaginations run wild. The park also features a community garden where residents grow vegetables and connect with neighbors.
You can find plenty of open green spaces meant for tossing a frisbee, setting up a picnic blanket, or simply lounging with a good book. These spacious fields accommodate everything from casual family games to peaceful solo relaxation. And yes, there's on-street parking available when you drive over.
Get Active or Relax
Feeling competitive? The park's volleyball court offers a great spot to bump, set, and spike with friends or neighbors. The open, versatile layout means you can adapt the space to whatever activity suits your mood.
When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas where you can enjoy a packed lunch or fire up a BBQ for something more substantial. If the infamous Alaskan weather takes a turn, don't worry - the community pavilion provides welcome shelter while still letting you enjoy the outdoor atmosphere.
Growing Better Over Time
Fairview Lions Park hasn't remained static over the decades. The early 1990s saw new trees planted within the grounds thanks to a state forestry grant, adding natural beauty and shade to the landscape.
In 2007, community spirit showed up in full force during a Challenge Grant project. Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to expand the community pavilion, plant fresh trees and perennials, and give both the volleyball court and multi-use field much-needed makeovers.
