About the Location
History and Development
Established in 1979, Little Dipper Park was purchased to add more parkland to the community and is named after the street where it is situated. The park covers an area between the size of a basketball court and a football field, providing a modest recreational space for local residents.
Following community feedback in 2008 when it initially received a poor grade in a neighborhood park report card, the park underwent significant improvements. In 2010, it received a $45,700 legislative grant as part of a Neighborhood Park Fix-it project.
Features and Amenities
One of the notable features of Little Dipper Park is its marsh overlook, offering visitors a glimpse of the natural wetlands in the area. The park features a mix of recreational facilities suitable for different age groups.
Playground equipment is available for both preschool-aged (2-5 years) and school-aged (5-12 years) children. The playground surfacing was upgraded from sand to engineered wood fiber to enhance safety and accessibility.
Recent Improvements
In 2011, further enhancements were made, including the replacement of damaged parts on play equipment and relocation of a dangerous pathway. Additional amenities such as an entrance sign, kiosk, and trash cans were also installed.
Little Dipper Park serves as a local gathering spot for the community, offering opportunities for play, relaxation, and enjoying nature. Its improvements over the years reflect the ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance public spaces in Anchorage for the benefit of residents.
