Buckeye Hills Regional Park
About Buckeye Hills Regional Park
Discover the Sonoran Desert Beauty
Positioned in the southwest Valley of Maricopa County, Buckeye Hills Regional Park spans an impressive 4,453 acres of natural desert landscape. This tranquil space showcases the authentic Sonoran Desert, with its characteristic mountain peaks covered in Palo Verde-Saguaro upland ecosystems and washes where mesquite trees and creosote subshrubs thrive.
The rolling hills and open spaces here offer impressive views of the natural landscape. As you explore, you'll be treated to unforgettable panoramic views that stretch across the surrounding area. If you're into wildlife watching or native plants, you're in luck - the diverse ecosystem here supports a rich variety of desert creatures and flora that call this harsh but beautiful environment home.
Get Moving Outdoors
The park welcomes all non-motorized adventures, making it great for hiking and mountain biking enthusiasts. Whether you're just starting out or consider yourself a seasoned outdoor pro, you'll discover trails that match your skill level.
One of the highlights of exploring these trails is catching glimpses of the Gila River riparian area - a refreshing contrast to the arid landscape that surrounds it.
Before You Visit
As of January 21, 2018, camping isn't available at Buckeye Hills, though this might change in the future as the park undergoes its master plan review.
Just a heads up - this is a more primitive park experience. You won't find a nature center here, and the amenities are pretty basic. Remember to bring everything you need with you, especially water, as there's no running water or electricity available around the park.
The natural, undeveloped character of Buckeye Hills is actually part of its charm for those seeking an authentic desert experience away from more crowded, developed recreation areas.
