About the Location

Natural Features

Found in southeast Chandler, Arizona, Veterans Oasis Park spreads across 113 acres of desert beauty. Since opening in 2008, this multifunctional space has evolved into something truly special - part recreational haven, part wildlife sanctuary, and part water management facility all rolled into one.

At the heart of the park sits a 5-acre lake that's regularly stocked with fish as part of Arizona's Urban Fishing Program. Grab your fishing gear and try your luck, or simply enjoy watching the wildlife that calls this water home. The water is so clear that with polarized glasses, you can actually see all the way to the bottom - pretty cool for desert water!

Trails and Wildlife

Lacing through the desert landscape, more than 4.5 miles of hiking and equestrian trails invite you to explore the native Sonoran ecosystem. Whether you prefer the smooth surface of paved paths or the more rugged feel of dirt trails, there's something to match your adventure style and accessibility needs.

If you're a bird enthusiast, the park is home to over 150 bird species that have been spotted here. Keep your eyes peeled for rabbits, quail, roadrunners, and lizards darting about, and if you're lucky, you might glimpse a coyote from a safe distance. The park's thoughtful design includes 78 acres dedicated to groundwater recharge and wetlands, creating a thriving ecosystem in the middle of the desert.

Environmental Education Center

Curious minds will appreciate the park's Environmental Education Center, where you can dive deeper into desert ecology, conservation, and sustainable living through various programs and workshops. The center houses fascinating displays about local wildlife, including live exhibits featuring snakes and other desert creatures that you can observe up close.

During the year, the center hosts community events like guided nature walks, stargazing nights, and seasonal celebrations. If you're visiting with kids, ask about their educational backpack kits - they're packed with activities to enhance your little ones' exploration experience.

Water Features

Beyond the main lake, a charming man-made creek meanders through the park, featuring a small waterfall that gently cascades into the lake. This quiet spot provides a moment of calm - a desert oasis where you can pause and collect your thoughts.

The sound of water flowing over rocks creates a peaceful atmosphere that feels removed from city life, despite being right in Chandler.

Veterans Memorial

In the southwest corner of the park, you'll come across the Field of Honor, a memorial dedicated to those who have served in the military. This thoughtfully designed space offers a quiet area for reflection and gratitude.

As the sun sets, the memorial comes alive with impressive light displays that illuminate in red, white, and blue - the colors of the American flag. Adding to the historical significance, there's an F-86 aircraft on display that's worth checking out.

If you're planning a gathering, covered ramadas are available around the park, many equipped with grills and picnic tables that make outdoor meals a breeze. There's also a natural amphitheater that blends seamlessly with the landscape, providing tiered seating where you can enjoy a concert, join a community gathering, or simply sit back with a snack and take in the beautiful desert views.
