Gilbert Regional Park
About Gilbert Regional Park
Park Overview
Located against the San Tan Mountains, Gilbert Regional Park spans 272 acres that opened in 2019. This relatively new addition to Arizona's outdoor scene has quickly become a local favorite, and it's easy to see why.
What makes this park stand out is its clever topographical design that works with the natural landscape rather than against it. There's even a hillside integrated right into the playground area, creating unique vertical play opportunities while still keeping everything accessible for everyone.
Gilbert Regional Park offers a well-maintained space where every family member can find activities to enjoy. The park welcomes early birds and night owls alike, operating daily from 5:30 AM to 10 PM.
Water Features
When Arizona temperatures climb, "The Falls" becomes the place to be. This 4,000-square-foot splash pad boasts 57 interactive water features and stays open year-round from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM. Parents can breathe a little easier knowing the entire splash pad is fenced with just two entry/exit points, making it harder for little ones to wander off.
For those who prefer fishing to splashing, the park's 7-acre lake with its urban fishing pier offers a peaceful retreat. The lake is well-stocked, and you might just reel in catfish, tilapia, or other aquatic residents. A 1-mile walking path encircles the lake and event areas, excellent for a morning jog or evening stroll. Keep your eyes peeled for various bird species that have made the lake their home - a small but delightful touch of wildlife in the suburban landscape.
Playground Areas
A notable feature is "The Mountain" - a custom-designed playground that towers 17 feet high. This multi-level play structure features everything from challenging climbing elements to exhilarating slides, swings, and even a zip-line that keeps kids (and let's be honest, some adults too) entertained for hours.
Younger children haven't been forgotten, with "The Creek" providing a dedicated tot playground area designed specifically for smaller adventurers. Both playgrounds include thoughtful accessible features for children with disabilities, including sensory play elements. The soft, rubberized surface throughout the playground areas means fewer bumps and bruises when inevitable tumbles occur.
Sports Facilities
The park includes courts for basketball, pickleball, tennis, and sand volleyball, all available on a first-come, first-served basis. The high-performance LED lighting means your game doesn't have to end when the sun goes down.
The pickleball courts are particularly hot property, especially during early morning hours (5:30 AM to 8 AM) and evenings (6 PM to 10 PM). If organized sports aren't your thing, the sprawling grassy areas provide perfect spots for impromptu frisbee games, kite flying, or giving your four-legged friend some exercise.
Picnic and Gathering Areas
Scattered throughout the park are ramadas of various sizes, many equipped with food prep areas, grills, and ample seating. These shaded havens can be reserved for everything from intimate birthday celebrations to large family reunions, with some accommodating up to 160 people.
The strategic placement of these picnic areas near playgrounds and the splash pad means you can keep an eye on the kids while preparing lunch. Plenty of trash receptacles help maintain the park's cleanliness.
Event Spaces
The park's amphitheater and 10-acre event lawn can host up to 5,000 people. These versatile spaces transform throughout the year to accommodate concerts, outdoor movie screenings, cultural celebrations, and holiday events - including some spectacular fireworks displays.
Accessibility and Amenities
The park features wheelchair-accessible pathways throughout the entire space, including routes to playgrounds and the splash pad. Clean restrooms, including family options, are conveniently located near activity centers.
Solar charging benches in select areas allow you to charge your devices while at the park. Water stations and plenty of trash bins help maintain the park's pristine condition.
