About the Location
The Lay of the Land
Spread across 14.3 acres, Northern Horizon Park offers plenty of breathing room for whatever outdoor activity you're in the mood for, whether that's breaking a sweat or simply unwinding under the Arizona sky.
The park's well-maintained walking trails meander through thoughtfully landscaped areas, excellent for a casual stroll, morning jog, or a more vigorous hike. With over 200 trees scattered throughout, finding a shady spot to relax or enjoy a picnic isn't too hard, even on those scorching desert days.
You'll come across several picnic tables throughout the grounds and three covered ramadas that work great for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or just hanging out with friends. Just a heads up - there aren't any public restrooms available here, so plan accordingly.
For the Four-Legged Friends
Dog owners, rejoice! Northern Horizon Park houses Glendale's largest dog park, featuring multiple fenced areas that separate pups by size and energy level - a thoughtful touch that helps keep playtime safe and enjoyable for all.
There's a water station for thirsty pets, but you'll need to bring your own water bowl. The terrain is mostly dirt with patches of grass here and there, and you might encounter some burrs that could get tangled in longer-haired dogs' coats - something to keep in mind if your furry friend has a flowing mane.
Kid-Friendly Fun
If you're bringing little ones along, the public safety-themed playground offers both entertainment and a dash of educational value. Kids seem to particularly love the firetruck structure and the xylophone piano positioned near the slides - a nice touch that adds some musical fun to the playground experience.
While you won't find any swings here, there are plenty of climbing structures and other play equipment to keep children engaged. And if you happen to have a train enthusiast in tow, they'll get a kick out of watching the trains pass by nearby.
More to Explore
Cyclists can take advantage of the small bike trail that winds through the park. The open design also accommodates various other activities, including skateboarding in designated areas.
If you're planning an evening visit, be aware that some areas of the park may have limited lighting. For those seeking a more peaceful experience, weekday mornings and afternoons tend to be the quieter times to visit.
