About the Location
Playground Paradise
Tucked behind an elementary school, Kiwanis Park is that hidden neighborhood haven you might walk right past if you didn't know it was there. This park has modern playgrounds with unique equipment that kids of all ages can enjoy. There are two separate play zones - a gentler one for the little tots and a more challenging area for the older adventure-seekers - and both come with those much-needed shade structures (because Arizona sun is no joke).
The toddler zone has baby swings and age-appropriate equipment where the smallest visitors can safely explore. Meanwhile, the big kids' playground offers taller, more complex climbing structures that provide just the right amount of challenge. A notable feature is the A seated zip line with platforms at each end that makes it accessible to most children. It's a popular spot with local families.
Play Elements That Stand Out
Remember those old-school roller slides from when you were a kid? Kiwanis has one! There's also a cool bridge in the larger playground that connects different play areas. If you've got energy to burn, check out the various spinning options - some fantastic for solo riders and others that can accommodate 3-5 friends spinning together.
What makes this playground special are all the unique features you won't find at every park: a crawling tunnel, climbing rope, climbing wall, binoculars for imaginary adventures, ninja climbing ropes for the aspiring American Ninja Warriors, and balance beams and logs to test those coordination skills. Kids also love the merry-go-round and the play counter for those who want to play store or restaurant.
Tennis courts are available nearby for the racquet-sport enthusiasts. While there aren't any basketball courts, you'll come across plenty of green space in the large, fenced field for running around, playing catch, or spreading out for a game of tag.
What to Know Before You Go
You can find clean restroom facilities conveniently located near the playgrounds. Each restroom has two stalls, but heads up - you'll need to bring your own soap and hand towels as these aren't provided.
Planning a gathering? The park offers three ramadas with picnic tables - each with two tables that can seat up to 16 people and a small charcoal grill for cooking up some outdoor favorites. A small group (up to four people) can enjoy a beer at the ramadas, but larger groups will need to get a permit first.
The playground has a woodchip surface underfoot, and there's a sidewalk that completely circles the play area - fantastic for kids practicing on scooters or bikes with training wheels. The grassy areas beyond offer more space for those ready to take off the training wheels.
Finding Your Way
One thing to note: there's no dedicated parking lot here. You'll need to look for parking spots along 78th Drive or just off the main road.
The park is partially visible from the street, and you'll access it via a walkway between fences that leads to the playground. The play area sits away from the street and is fenced on three sides, creating a secure environment where kids can play without parents constantly worrying about traffic.
The Extras
Dog lovers, you're welcome here too! Your furry friends can join on leashes, and the large grassy areas give them room to stretch their legs (though there's no dedicated dog park section).
One of the best things about Kiwanis Park is how consistently clean, colorful, and well-maintained it is. The relatively peaceful atmosphere makes it ideal whether you're looking for active play or just want to spread out a blanket and enjoy a quiet afternoon picnic in a well-kept space.
