About Horizon Park

Recreational Facilities

Situated in Scottsdale, Arizona, Horizon Park spreads across 24 acres just east of the 101 freeway off Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard. This park offers activities for most interests, whether you're looking to break a sweat or just enjoy some fresh air.

If you're into sports, the park has four lighted softball fields where local leagues play in the evenings. There are three basketball courts well-suited for pickup games, five sand volleyball courts where you can channel your inner beach athlete, and eight lighted pickleball courts that have become quite the hotspot. The pickleball scene here is particularly vibrant, drawing players in the 4.0 to 4.5 skill range who really know their way around a paddle.

The volleyball courts are well-kept and usually busy with locals diving for impressive saves. If you prefer a more relaxed activity, the walking paths that wind around the park offer an ideal circuit for your morning jog or evening stroll, with some pretty sweet mountain views as your backdrop.

Playgrounds

Kids have plenty of options to burn off energy here. The south playground got a facelift in February 2020 and features three slides, various climbing challenges, and even a tightrope for the more adventurous little ones. It has a wood chip surface that's gentle on tumbles and falls.

Over by the community center, the north playground divides into sections for different age groups, with climbing walls, slides, and swings to keep everyone entertained. Parents with younger children particularly appreciate the toddler area with its pint-sized structures that are just right for tiny explorers.

Both playgrounds include partial shade structures - a real blessing during Arizona's warmer months - and plenty of swings for those who love to soar. They're kept clean and in good repair, which is always nice to see.

There's even a smaller third playground nestled between the softball fields, giving kids yet another place to play while parents might be watching a game.

Community Center

The community center is really the heart of Horizon Park. Inside, there's a recreation room, teen center, classrooms, and multi-purpose spaces used for art classes, piano lessons, yoga sessions, and summer camps for kids.

They host free drop-in activities regularly where locals often gather. If you're planning a special occasion, the large auditorium can be rented for private events and children's parties - just book through the city website.

Additional Amenities

When you're ready to refuel, grab one of the ramadas for a picnic lunch. There are two drop-in shelters on the north side and another on the south side, excellent for gathering with friends or family.

Dog parents will appreciate the dog park at the far west end of the grounds. While it's mostly dirt rather than grass, the excellent shade trees make it a comfortable spot for your furry friend to run around and socialize.

You can find clean restrooms both inside the community center and accessible from outside. The outdoor facilities are basic but well-maintained - always a relief when you're spending the day out with kids.

Park Layout

The layout of Horizon Park allows for a full day of different activities. There's plenty of parking throughout, so you won't have to trek far to reach your activity of choice.

The green spaces scattered throughout are fantastic for impromptu frisbee games, picnics, or just sprawling out with a good book. The mountain views visible from many spots in the park are notable - especially at sunset.

The park maintains a nice flow from the community center on the east side to the dog park and recycling area on the west end. Everything is kept in good condition, making this a reliable go-to for outdoor time in Scottsdale.
