Petersen Park
About Petersen Park
Fresh Community Oasis
Tucked away at the intersection of Priest Drive and Southern Avenue in Tempe, Petersen Park emerged from its 2021 renovation as a true local park. The makeover refreshed this corner of Tempe with a clean, well-kept space where locals of all ages can relax, play, and spend time together.
Adorable Farm-Themed Playground
The main feature is a charming farm-themed playground that children under 10 will particularly enjoy. If you've got little ones, this is definitely worth a visit.
The designers went all in on the agricultural vibe with a cute windmill, a climbable tractor, and yes, even a cow figure that kids absolutely love. Little adventurers can scramble up hay stack-inspired structures to reach the top of the equipment before zooming down slides or testing their climbing skills on various features.
Kid-Friendly Safety Features
Parents will appreciate the rubber ground surface throughout the play area - no more shaking sand out of shoes or dealing with wood chips in socks! There's also a separate toddler play structure right next to the main playground, so your tiniest explorers can have their own appropriately-sized adventures.
The park's excellent lighting is a thoughtful touch, making evening visits both practical and safe. Photography enthusiasts might even want to snap some nighttime shots - the illumination creates a lovely atmosphere after dark.
Everything You Need for a Great Day Out
Beyond the playground, Petersen Park offers all the essentials for a relaxed day outdoors. The accessible pathways make navigation easy for everyone, whether you're pushing a stroller or using a mobility device.
Scattered throughout are multiple picnic tables excellent for family lunches or casual get-togethers. Feeling like cooking outdoors? Several grilling stations are ready for your burgers and hot dogs, while a ramada provides coverage for small gatherings or a retreat from unexpected weather.
The Arizona sun can be intense, but you'll come across plenty of shaded areas across the park. The new trees not only look great but provide welcome relief on hot days.
Dog parents, rejoice - your furry friends are welcome to join the fun here. Just note that the park doesn't have public restrooms, so plan accordingly before settling in for the day.
