About Freedom Park
History and Significance
Opened in 1976 to celebrate the Bicentennial Year, Freedom Park takes its name from a student-driven effort - kids at nearby Myers Elementary School came up with the name, giving the park a community connection that goes back to its very beginning. That origin story adds something to the place that most parks can't claim.
The park spans 39.1 acres at 5000 E. 29th Street in Tucson, reflecting American values of freedom and liberty right there in the name.
Aquatic Facilities
When Arizona temperatures soar, Freedom Park's swimming pool becomes the place to be. At 25 yards long and 60 feet wide, this pool accommodates swimmers of all levels with depths ranging from a gentle 2.5 feet at the steps to a challenging 10 feet in the deep end.

Got little ones? There's a separate wading pool just for them. And don't miss the Freedom Park Splash Pad - a local favorite that runs from April 1 through October 31, daily from 8 am until sunset. You'll appreciate that the splash pad offers shade coverage - a thoughtful touch when the Arizona sun is doing its thing.
Parents can breathe easier knowing complimentary life vests are available to borrow - safety first, right?
Sports and Recreation
Sports enthusiasts have plenty of options here. The park houses several well-maintained Little League baseball fields, a softball field, soccer fields, and basketball courts with smooth, clean playing surfaces.

Playgrounds and Family Areas
Freedom Park offers several options for children. Multiple playground areas are scattered around the grounds, catering to different age groups. The main playground sits centrally in the park, featuring climbing structures, swings, and sandy areas where kids can channel their inner archaeologist.
There's thoughtful design at work here - toddlers have their own smaller playground while bigger kids can tackle the more challenging equipment in the larger play area.
Fitness and Nature
Looking to stay active? The park's multi-use path includes fitness stations where you can walk, jog, or cycle while mixing in some strength training. It's like having an outdoor gym at your disposal.
Nature lovers might spot the resident ground squirrels that call the park home. The walking trails welcome visitors of all ages, with everyone from seniors to families with strollers making regular appearances.
Community Amenities
Freedom Park functions as a community gathering space. You'll discover multiple ramadas and picnic tables within the grounds - fantastic for anything from birthday celebrations to casual weekend picnics. There are also concession stands that open during busy periods and special events.
Planning a cookout? The park provides barbecue grills. Thanks to its central location and accessibility via public bus routes, it's a convenient recreational option for many in the community.
