About the Location
History and Origins
Located in the heart of Tucson, Gene C. Reid Park spans a generous 131 acres of urban greenspace. What began as Randolph Park back in 1925 took on its current name in 1978, honoring Gene C. Reid - Tucson's pioneering Parks and Recreation director whose vision shaped much of what we enjoy today through his dedicated work expanding and enhancing the park.

Natural Features
Strolling through Reid Park, you'll appreciate the cooling shade cast by mature trees, wide open grassy areas meant for picnics or frisbee, and two man-made ponds that have become little ecosystems in themselves. Ducks, geese, and turtles call these waters home, often creating quite the spectacle for visitors. If you're planning to feed the waterfowl, just remember that proper duck food is much better for them than bread. The gentle sound of small waterfalls adds to the ponds' tranquil vibe - an ideal escape from city noise.
The Cele Peterson Rose Garden sits at the park's heart, showcasing a beautiful array of roses that bloom throughout most of the year. It's a quiet spot where you can sit and breathe in the fragrance or snap some gorgeous photos.
The park incorporates flood management features that blend into the landscape - practical solutions that also look natural.

Recreational Facilities
If you're looking to get some steps in, the park offers about 2 miles of paved multi-use trails circling its perimeter. These connect all the major areas while providing a smooth surface for walking, jogging, or biking.
Reid Park is home to some impressive facilities, including the 9,500-seat baseball stadium known as Hi Corbett Field, an outdoor performance center that comes alive with concerts and movies during summer evenings, refreshing public swimming pools, and the fascinating Reid Park Zoo which spans 24 acres. The Edith Ball Recreation Center features a warm water pool that's particularly beneficial for people managing arthritis or mobility challenges. Beyond these, the park connects to a larger 480-acre recreation complex complete with two 18-hole golf courses, tennis courts, and an indoor recreation center.

Family-Friendly Amenities
Kids have plenty of space to burn energy at several well-maintained playgrounds designed for different age groups, with some equipment featuring accessibility elements. Across the park, you'll come across multiple covered ramadas with picnic tables and BBQ grills - perfect spots for family gatherings or celebrations. These areas are especially popular for birthday parties and can be reserved ahead of time if you're planning something special.
Dog owners will appreciate the dedicated dog park with separate areas for large and small dogs, allowing pets to run free safely. And leashed dogs are welcome to join you throughout the rest of the park.

Community Impact
Reid Park serves many Tucson residents as a central gathering space where people from all walks of life come together. The park takes accessibility seriously, with numerous ADA-compliant amenities ensuring everyone can enjoy what it has to offer.
With its central location and diverse attractions, it's no wonder the park draws such a varied crowd - families with young children, fitness enthusiasts getting their daily exercise, and nature lovers seeking a green retreat within the city. Year-round, the park hosts community events ranging from craft fairs to performances at the outdoor amphitheater and cultural celebrations that showcase Tucson's diverse heritage.
