Peralta Canyon Park

Historic Roots

Tucked just north of Santa Ana Canyon Road near Pinney Drive in Anaheim, you can find the sprawling 21.4-acre Peralta Canyon Park. Since opening in 1977, this park offers a variety of recreational options.

The park bears the name of Juan Pablo Peralta, one of the first people to own land in this area. Located within what locals call the "Hills of Anaheim," this park is a popular gathering place for the community.

Playground and Children's Area

The expansive play area includes sand areas, kid swings, monkey bars, and a tall slide that children enjoy.

The jungle gyms are thoughtfully shaded, making them an excellent retreat even on those scorching California afternoons. There's also a small loop path circling the playground where you'll often spot little ones wobbling along on their training wheels, taking their first independent pedals in a safe environment.

Sports Facilities

Sports enthusiasts have plenty to keep them active here. The park features lighted softball fields for evening play, alongside a lighted football/soccer area for team sports. Outdoor basketball courts invite pickup games throughout the day.

Looking for something different? Try the volleyball facilities or check out the recently added pickle ball court that's quickly gaining a following among park-goers. Weekend softball tournaments bring extra energy to the park, complete with a snack bar serving up refreshments to hungry players and spectators.

Picnic and Community Areas

The park has numerous picnic areas with shelters and tables for gathering with friends and family. Each picnic spot has its own BBQ stand and trash bin, making it convenient for outdoor get-togethers.

The clean, well-maintained restrooms add to the comfort factor for longer visits. Many picnic areas sit beneath the park's mature trees, providing ample shade that makes even large gatherings of up to 300 people comfortable, even during warmer months.

Natural Features and Layout

The park's natural contours create a natural amphitheater design that adds character to the landscape. From certain vantage points, you can take in beautiful views of the surrounding area. The large open field invites spontaneous activities - whether it's launching a colorful kite into the breeze, playing an impromptu game of tag, or simply stretching out on a blanket.

Tall, established trees dot the landscape, creating pockets of coolness around the grounds. While the park backs up to the 91 Freeway, a substantial wall helps buffer the traffic sounds, allowing you to focus on the more pleasant sounds of nature and play.

Special Events and Community Use

Mark your calendar for the park's Fourth of July fireworks show - a highlight of the year that brings neighbors together under summer skies. The open layout offers excellent viewing spots for catching the dazzling display.

On any given day, you might spot people using the spacious grounds for everything from morning jogs to casual frisbee golf games. The clean facilities and relatively peaceful atmosphere offer a welcome break from the usual hustle.

Dog-Friendly Features

Four-legged friends are welcome at this dog-friendly park, where you'll regularly see residents strolling with their canine companions. Most pet owners are considerate about keeping the grounds clean. The open spaces have even made it a suitable venue for occasional dog training classes.

With its recreational options, space, and ample parking, Peralta Canyon Park is a nice green space in the Anaheim community. Open daily from 5AM to 10:30PM, the extended hours accommodate everything from early morning exercise routines to evening sports practices under the lights.
