About Julpun Community Park

Native American Heritage

Julpun Community Park, pronounced "Hool-poon", honors the Bay Miwok Native American Tribe who originally called the Antioch and Oakley areas home long before modern development arrived.

Park Overview

This freshly minted 8.22-acre green space sits nestled near Sierra Trail Way and Summit View Way in Antioch, California. It's actually part of The Crest at Park Ridge housing development by Davidon Homes, but don't let that fool you - it's fully open to everyone, not just neighborhood residents.

Perched on a hilltop, the park treats you to some genuinely stunning views of Mount Diablo that might just make your Instagram followers a bit jealous. The panorama alone is worth the visit, especially during golden hour.

Recreational Opportunities

Regardless of whether you're looking to break a sweat or just chill out, Julpun has you covered. Sports fans can shoot some hoops at the basketball courts or play ball at the baseball diamond. There's also a generous open grassy field great for impromptu soccer games, frisbee sessions, or just sprawling out with a good book.

If you've got kids in tow, they'll probably head straight for the modern playground which includes separate zones for the little ones. The equipment is well-designed and sturdy - exactly what you want when your energetic five-year-old is climbing everything in sight.

Bringing your four-legged friend? The park has dedicated dog park areas with separate sections for small and large dogs, so your tiny Chihuahua won't have to navigate a sea of Great Danes.

When hunger strikes, head over to the covered picnic tables and barbecue grills. They're ideal for everything from casual lunches to full-blown family reunions. Remember to clean up after yourself.

Trail Access

Feel like stretching your legs a bit more? Julpun connects to hiking trails that lead to even higher vantage points with panoramic views of the surrounding area. The park connects to the adjacent Valeriano and Giuseppina Jacuzzi Knolls Open Space, adding another 25.51 acres to explore.

For those who prefer their walks a bit more structured, a nice walking path circles the entire park - ideal for a morning constitutional or an evening stroll as the sun sets.

Amenities

The practical stuff matters too: you'll find clean, all-gendered restrooms that are well-maintained (always a relief, literally). There's plenty of parking available, so you won't have to circle endlessly looking for a spot.

One thing to note - since the park is relatively new, the trees haven't fully matured yet. This means shade can be scarce on hot days. You might want to bring a pop-up canopy if you're planning an extended visit, but be warned that the hilltop location can get quite windy, especially in the afternoon. Nothing worse than chasing your sunshade across a field!

Recent Development

Having just been dedicated in 2023, Julpun Park is practically still breaking in its playground equipment. It's the newest addition to Antioch's collection of 34 parks.

The park is consistently well-kept and clean. It's becoming a local favorite spot for many residents.
