Situated in Carlsbad, California, Poinsettia Park spreads across a generous 42 acres, offering something for just about everyone who visits.

The park houses the largest public tennis complex in the city with 10 lighted tennis courts. There are also six lighted pickleball courts available. These are thoughtfully divided into four courts for players of all skill levels and two challenge courts where things get a bit more competitive. Feel free to drop in for a game anytime until 10pm, as long as the weather cooperates.

Team sports more your thing? The park features three baseball/softball fields and a turf multi-sport arena field that hosts soccer, football, and flag football during the year. Basketball players can shoot hoops at two full-court basketball courts where the lights stay on until 10pm - excellent for those evening games after work.

Family-Friendly Areas

If you're visiting with kids, the park offers unique playgrounds. Renovated in October 2019, the play area features whimsical Teletubby-like hills, climbing structures, slides, swings, and ropes that children of all ages will love exploring. Parents of toddlers will appreciate that the area is especially suitable for little ones ages 2-5, with soft surfaces to cushion inevitable tumbles and a gate for added peace of mind.

Packing a lunch? The park's picnic areas come equipped with tables and barbecues, making it easy to enjoy a meal outdoors. There's plenty of grassy space and shade trees scattered throughout, meant for spreading out a blanket or just relaxing with a good book.

Dog owners, rejoice! One of the newer additions to Poinsettia Park is the off-leash dog park that opened in 2022. Your four-legged friends can run free in either the 20,000-square-foot area for large dogs or the 7,700-square-foot area for small dogs under 25 lbs. Each section includes agility equipment, drinking fountains, and picnic tables. The large dog area offers some welcome shade, but the small dog section could use a bit more coverage during those hot summer months.

Amenities and Improvements

Need to stretch your legs? The park's scenic walking and hiking trails wind throughout the property, offering a peaceful escape and a chance to connect with nature. Many visitors enjoy walking their dogs along these paths before letting them off-leash in the dog park.

You'll discover clean restroom facilities at several spots across the park, with the newer facilities near the tennis and pickleball courts being particularly well-maintained - always a plus for a public park!

A recent addition of a parking lot with 37 spaces, including four EV charging stations, makes visiting more convenient. Just keep in mind that parking can fill up quickly during sporting events, tournaments, or the popular summer concerts, so it's wise to arrive early if you're coming for a special event.
