Dating back to 1927, Eucalyptus Park isn't just any green space - it's one of San Diego County's oldest community treasures. Covering 20.9 acres at the corner of Fourth Avenue and C Street in Chula Vista, this park has been a popular local spot for nearly a century.

Get Your Game On

The expansive grassy areas are excellent for spreading out a blanket, tossing a frisbee, or simply soaking up some sunshine. Sports enthusiasts will feel right at home with the park's ball fields, full-court basketball court, and tennis courts. While the courts are well-maintained overall, you might find the tennis nets in varying conditions depending on when you visit.

Up on the higher level, you can find Menzel Field - complete with illuminated ball fields and a snack bar for when hunger strikes. The baseball facilities here are well-maintained and frequently used by local teams for games and practice.

Kid-Friendly Fun

Eucalyptus Park doesn't forget about its smallest visitors. Two distinct playground areas cater to different age groups - one designed specifically for toddlers and another for the older kids. Little ones can enjoy swings, slides, and interactive play structures shaped like tractors and buses. The park features ADA accessible play equipment and baby swings to accommodate children of all abilities.

Just a heads-up: weekends tend to bring the crowds to these playgrounds, so arrive early if your kids like having the run of the place.

Explore the Outdoors

Feeling energetic? Take a stroll or quick jog along the walking-hiking trail that meanders through the grounds. The south side of the park features a grove of eucalyptus trees (true to its name!), providing a nice natural area within the urban setting.

For something a bit different, try your hand at the horseshoe pits near the ball fields - a classic pastime that's still alive and well here.

Dog parents will appreciate the designated dog area where your furry companions can stretch their legs and socialize. This thoughtfully separated space ensures dogs can play freely without disturbing the children's areas.

When it's time for a break, you'll find clean restrooms, barbecue grills, and various picnic spots throughout the park. The shaded picnic areas at the park's edge provide welcome relief on hot days. The convenience factor gets a boost from the shopping center just across the street - excellent for any last-minute picnic supplies you might have forgotten.

Looking to the Future

Exciting changes are coming to Eucalyptus Park with a $7.1 million renovation in the works. By summer 2026, you can look forward to cooling off at a new splash pad, showing off your moves at a skate plaza, or joining the latest sports craze at the pickleball courts. The project will also give existing facilities some much-needed TLC, improving accessibility and bringing modern touches to this historic park.
