Park Overview
Whittier Narrows Recreation Area is a sprawling 1,492-acre park located in South El Monte, California. This expansive recreational space is one of Los Angeles County's largest and most popular outdoor destinations.
The park is situated around the Whittier Narrows Dam, which was constructed in the 1950s by the US Army Corps of Engineers as part of a flood control project.
Park Sections and Lakes
The recreation area is divided into five distinct sections, labeled A through E, each offering various amenities and activities.
At the heart of the park are three lakes: Legg Lake, Center Lake, and North Lake. These bodies of water provide opportunities for fishing, with the California Department of Fish and Game stocking them with trout, bass, and catfish.

The park features an extensive network of walking and jogging trails, including a 5-kilometer course that circles the lakes.
