About the Location

Cultural Heart of Elk Grove

Tucked away on Ponta Delgada Drive, Singh and Kaur Park is Elk Grove's 100th green space and a 5-acre addition to California's landscape. Completed in 2021, this park emerged from a collaboration between the Cosumnes Community Services District and the City of Elk Grove - but it's so much more than just another neighborhood park.

What we find special about this space is its distinction as the first American park to honor the Sikh community. From its thoughtful name to design elements inspired by Northern India, there's a sense of cultural richness here that transforms a simple visit into something more meaningful.

A Monument to Remembrance

As you wander through the park, you'll notice two large rings that mirror the kara bangles worn in Sikh tradition - a cultural touchpoint that adds depth to the landscape.

The park also functions as a memorial honoring Gurmej Atwal and Surinder Singh, two Sikh community members who lost their lives in an unsolved double homicide in 2011. The park is both a place of joy and remembrance, honoring community memory in its design.

Play and Recreation

The newly built playground offers an array of slides and modern play structures for children. There are play options for both toddlers and older children.

For the more athletically inclined, the basketball court offers a place to shoot some hoops, while the walking trail provides a peaceful path for morning strolls or evening jogs. The generous open grassy field invites impromptu soccer games, frisbee tosses, picnic spreads, or simply giving your four-legged friend some exercise in this dog-friendly environment.

Gathering Place

At its heart, this park was designed to bring people together. The thoughtfully arranged shaded picnic area creates a natural gathering spot where families can share meals and conversations away from the summer heat, while mature trees throughout provide welcome relief on warmer days.

The park offers a place where children can make friends and adults can connect with neighbors during outdoor activities.

Good to Know

While the park offers plenty to enjoy, you should note there are no restroom facilities on site. If you're planning to spend several hours here or visiting with young children, you might want to plan accordingly.
