Singh and Kaur Park, located in Elk Grove, California, is the 100th park in the city and spans 5 acres. Completed in 2021, this park is a joint project between the Cosumnes Community Services District and the City of Elk Grove.
The park's design pays homage to the Sikh community, making it the first American park to do so. Its name and aesthetic elements draw inspiration from Northern India, creating a unique sense of place and identity for the neighborhood.
Memorial Features
Two notable features are large rings that mirror the kara bangles worn by Sikhs, adding cultural significance to the park's landscape.
Singh and Kaur Park also serves as a memorial, honoring the lives of two Sikh individuals, Gurmej Atwal and Surinder Singh, who were tragically killed in an unsolved double homicide in 2011. This aspect of the park symbolizes remembrance and community resilience.
