Dusterberry Neighborhood Park
About Dusterberry Neighborhood Park
Fresh Green Space in the Neighborhood
Dusterberry Neighborhood Park is a bright new addition to Fremont, California - a 4-acre green oasis sitting at the corner of Dusterberry Way and Peralta Boulevard. Opened just recently on July 7, 2023, this park has a pretty cool backstory: it was once an abandoned car dealership that's been completely transformed into a vibrant community space where neighbors can connect and play.
Play Areas That Kids Actually Love
If you've got kids who need to burn off energy, this park has plenty to offer. School-aged children can tackle the impressive climbing structure complete with three towering tube slides that are notably taller than what you'll find at most local parks. The massive climbing net pyramid is another standout feature that keeps older kids engaged for hours.
Little ones aren't left out - there's a thoughtfully designed nature play area with boulders and smaller slides specifically crafted for toddlers and children under 5. There's also a parent-and-tot swing where you can swing together with your little one instead of just pushing from behind.
Stay Active Your Way
Beyond the playground, you can find a half basketball court for shooting hoops or playing a quick pickup game. There's also a dedicated adult exercise area with fitness equipment, so you can get in a workout while keeping an eye on the kids - a practical solution for active parents.
Scenic Paths and Open Spaces
With 1,200 cubic yards of multi-use grass area, there's plenty of room to throw a frisbee, have a picnic, or simply lie back and cloud-watch. The park's walking paths form a neat 0.25-mile loop around the perimeter with distance markers, perfect if you're looking to get some steps in or enjoy a leisurely stroll.
Since the trees are still young, the designers thoughtfully installed canopy structures over seating areas to provide much-needed shade. You'll also find water fountains and bottle filling stations throughout - a must-have during California's warmer months.
Good to Know Before You Go
The park offers several picnic tables and grilling areas with seating, making it ideal for small family gatherings. However, it's worth noting that as a neighborhood park, Dusterberry doesn't have restrooms or a dedicated parking lot. You'll need to use street parking in the surrounding area, which can get tight during peak times, especially weekends. Some parkgoers use the nearby Fremont DMV lot when it's closed and walk over.
Award-Winning Design
The park's thoughtful transformation hasn't gone unnoticed - Dusterberry received the 2023 California Park & Recreation Society Award of Excellence in the category of Excellence in Design - Park Planning. It's a well-deserved recognition of how this space has evolved from an eyesore to a community treasure.
Since opening, the park has quickly become a local favorite, with families often staying until sunset.
