About the Location

Park Features

Old Mission Community Park sits partly on a hillside, spreading across different levels with recreational spaces and natural areas that offer a break from the everyday.

From the open lawns and walking paths, the park's elevated position provides some nice views. Look out and you'll spot the majestic Mission Peak, the broadcasting towers crowning Mount Allison, Monument Peak, and the sprawling campus of Ohlone College.

Kids have their pick of two playground structures designed for different age groups. Sports enthusiasts can shoot some hoops at the basketball courts or play ball at the baseball fields. If you're into fitness, the park's pull-up and dip bar stations make for perfect strength-training stops during your neighborhood jog.

Trails and Natural Beauty

The well-maintained trails here are dog-friendly and mostly gentle enough for casual walkers. Nothing too challenging, just pleasant paths with beautiful vistas that make your daily walk a bit more special.

If you visit in spring, don't miss the north slope along Paseo Padre where custard plants create a carpet of yellow blooms - it's quite the sight! For the geology buffs among us, there's something cool to note: petrified wood has been discovered in the park's outcrops.

Community Space

This park functions as a neighborhood gathering spot, with spaces for both energetic kids and adults seeking some quiet time. You'll discover both active recreation areas and quieter corners for relaxation.

At the hilltop, numerous benches offer perfect perches for meeting up with friends or just sitting back with a good book. The picnic areas and grilling facilities make it easy to turn a simple outing into a proper family feast or celebration.

Amenities

You'll find clean restrooms available when nature calls. There's a parking lot too, but it can fill up quickly during peak times, especially weekends.

Note that shade is somewhat limited throughout the park, so bringing sun protection is smart on warm days. Also, be aware that some sections have rather steep slopes that might be challenging for very young children to navigate safely.
