About the Location
Dual-Purpose Design
Haster Basin Recreational Park spans 22.6 acres in Garden Grove, California. The park underwent a significant renovation completed in 2014, serving dual purposes as both a recreational area and a flood control basin.
The $25.3 million renovation project was a collaborative effort between various government entities, jointly funded by the California Department of Water Resources and the County of Orange. This project expanded the usable park area by 2 acres and added new features to enhance its recreational value.
Trails and Recreation
A 3/4-mile trail made of decomposed granite wraps around the perimeter of the basin, providing a safe and scenic route for both cyclists and joggers. This trail is part of the park's focus on promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
The park offers a variety of activities for visitors. It's an ideal spot for picnics, leisurely strolls, and birdwatching. The park's natural setting also makes it suitable for activities such as photography, yoga, and meditation.
Flood Control Features
At the center of the park is a lake that serves as part of the county's flood control system. The basin has been improved with a pump station powered by natural gas, capable of pushing water at 70,000 gallons per minute to prevent future threats of flooding.
Accessibility
Haster Basin Recreational Park is designed to be accessible to all, with wheelchair-friendly paths ensuring that individuals with mobility challenges can enjoy the facilities. Multiple parking lots are available for visitor convenience.
