About the Location

History

What is now known as Magnolia Park was once part of the Wakeham family estate until 1962, when Garden Grove City decided to transform this private property into a public space for everyone to enjoy. The Wakeham's former home didn't go to waste - it was thoughtfully converted into a community center, and their swimming pool was given new life as a public amenity.

Features & Landscape

Spread across 5.9 acres on Magnolia Street, this Garden Grove spot offers a little something for everyone. After its recent remodel, the park strikes that perfect balance between practical recreation spaces and natural beauty. With generous shade trees and well-kept grounds, you can take a relaxing stroll, get your morning jog in, or simply find a quiet spot to unwind among the greenery.

Playground

Kids' faces light up at the sight of the playground - and for good reason. Recently upgraded with modern equipment, it caters to children of all ages with slides, climbing structures, and interactive elements that spark imagination and active play. Parents can breathe easy knowing the soft padding floor helps keep little adventurers safe as they explore. This refreshed play area has quickly become a neighborhood favorite for families with young children.

Recreational Amenities

Sports fans will find several options at Magnolia Park. Challenge friends to a match on the tennis courts or handball courts, or shoot some hoops at the fenced basketball area with its two backboards (though fair warning: one faces the setting sun, which can make those evening games a bit tricky).

If you're looking to break a sweat without a gym membership, check out the outdoor fitness equipment scattered within the grounds. These stations let you get in a complete workout while enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is one of the park's standout features, with depths ranging from 2½ to 5½ feet - particularly good for younger swimmers still building their confidence in the water. You'll appreciate the well-maintained facilities and clean environment.

Planning a special occasion? The pool area can be reserved for private events, making it a practical choice for birthday celebrations and other gatherings when you want to make a splash.

Picnic Areas

When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas equipped with convenient tables. You have options here - choose between sheltered tables that provide welcome shade on sunny days or uncovered spots if you're looking to soak up some vitamin D.

Beyond the designated picnic zones, the park offers plenty of grassy spaces, many with natural shade, well-suited for spreading out a blanket for an impromptu picnic. These open areas are used for everything from family reunions to community gatherings.

Additional Information

The dedicated parking lot offers convenience, however it can fill up quickly during peak times. Not to worry - street parking is readily available along the north side of the park.

Dog lovers will feel right at home here, as many locals bring their four-legged friends for walks or training sessions. The park also features an attached library for those seeking literary adventures. Community support happens here too, with Narcotics Anonymous and other community meetings typically taking place at noon daily.
