About Fremont Park
A Park's Transformation
Fremont Park has been a fixture in its Glendale, California neighborhood since 1922. This 7.90-acre green space, tucked into the western part of the city near Hahn and Kennilworth Avenues, is currently undergoing a major metamorphosis.
The Renovation Journey
If you're planning a visit, you should note that Fremont Park closed its gates in November 2023 for an ambitious renovation project. The park is taking a beauty sleep until early 2025, when it will reopen with a fresh new look and enhanced amenities.
This isn't just a quick facelift - it's a comprehensive transformation that will significantly change the park's facilities and layout.
What's Coming
When Fremont Park reopens, you'll find several new additions. A new community building will include a tennis club house, meeting spaces, rentable areas, and a kitchenette for community events.
Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the new artificial turf soccer field and pickleball courts that cleverly double as basketball courts. For those hot California days, a refreshing splash pad will replace the former wading pool, offering a more contemporary water play experience.
Beyond the Basics
The renovation goes beyond just the major facilities. A new walking path will trace the park's perimeter, meant for those morning strolls or evening constitutional walks. Fitness buffs will enjoy new exercise equipment stations, while tennis players can take breaks under a dedicated shade structure.
The children's playground is getting a complete overhaul, restroom facilities are being modernized, and the picnic areas are being reimagined. And for those who've struggled with parking, there's good news: 26 new parking spaces are being added to make your visit more convenient.
The Park We Remember
Before its temporary closure, Fremont Park was well-used by the community. The tennis courts hosted friendly matches, the basketball courts echoed with the sound of bouncing balls, and the soccer area provided space for impromptu games and team practices.
The picnic area with its approximately ten tables and BBQ pits was a favorite spot for weekend family gatherings, birthday celebrations, and community potlucks.
A Place for Everyone
Local families particularly appreciated the decent-sized playground where children could climb, swing, and slide to their hearts' content. The park's versatility meant you could find people engaged in different activities throughout the day - from morning joggers to afternoon sports enthusiasts to evening picnickers.
Four-legged friends were welcome too, with many neighbors regularly walking their dogs through the green space.
In the Meantime
While you wait for the grand reopening, the city has thoughtfully provided a temporary mini park across the street. Located in the parking area on Patterson Avenue, this interim space offers benches and tables where you can still enjoy some outdoor time in the neighborhood.
It may not be the full Fremont Park experience, but it's a nice gesture to help bridge the gap until the renovation is complete.
