About the Location

Park Overview

Positioned in southern Irvine, William R. Mason Regional Park stretches across an impressive 345 acres of green space. First opened in 1973, the park bears the name of William R. Mason, the former Irvine Company president who played a key role in donating the land before his passing that same year.

The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 9PM, with a modest parking fee of $3 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. The park is spotlessly clean and well-maintained, with a peaceful atmosphere that many visitors appreciate.

Two Sides, Two Experiences

Culver Drive cuts right through Mason Park, creating two distinct areas with their own personality. The eastern side is where you can find 123 acres of wilderness area with rugged hills and a meandering creek. The hiking and biking trails here offer a good opportunity to connect with nature.

Cross over to the western side and you'll come across yourself in a more traditional park setting with sprawling lawns and a beautiful artificial lake. This side is ideal for spreading out a blanket, tossing a frisbee, or gathering with friends and family for an afternoon outdoors.

The Lake Life

The crown jewel of Mason Park has to be its 9-acre lake, completed in 1978. On any given day, you might spot model boat enthusiasts navigating their miniature vessels across the water with impressive precision.

The lake has become its own little ecosystem, teeming with ducks and geese gliding across the surface while turtles bask on rocks along the shore. Keep your eyes peeled and you might even catch sight of a frog or two. It's a spot for wildlife viewing that feels somewhat removed from city life.

A pleasant walking path known as the Lake Loop encircles the water, offering an easy stroll under the shade of mature trees - ideal for those days when you just need a gentle nature fix without committing to a serious hike.

Get Moving

For play and exercise, Mason Park offers several options. Kids can enjoy one of three tot lot playgrounds scattered across the grounds, each designed with different age groups in mind.

Feeling sporty? Challenge your friends to a match at one of the two sand volleyball courts, practice your swing at the softball backstops, or get your heart pumping at the physical fitness course with its outdoor exercise stations. The paved paths winding through the park are fantastic for a morning jog, leisurely walk, or bicycle ride.

Gather 'Round

Mason Park serves well as a gathering spot. Several picnic shelters are available for reservation, including one that can host up to 500 people for larger events. You can find plenty of shaded picnic tables and barbecue grills across the park for impromptu get-togethers as well.

The clean restrooms nearby are a practical but much-appreciated touch - especially when you're spending the day outdoors with family.

Community Hub

All year long, the park's amphitheater comes alive with community events that bring neighbors together. Summer evenings are especially magical with outdoor concerts and movie nights under the stars. The Summer Concert series has become something of a local tradition, offering free entertainment in a relaxed setting.

The staff are friendly, and the welcoming atmosphere helps make this green space an appreciated part of the community.
