About the Location
Recreational Facilities
Tucked between Canyon View Elementary School and Northwood Montessori School, Meadowood Park is a popular spot for local families and students looking to blow off some steam after class.
The park includes a nice variety of sports options including baseball/softball fields, a full basketball court, and open grassy areas where impromptu soccer matches regularly break out. There's also a sunken sand volleyball court that adds a bit of beach vibes to this suburban space. We've noticed the soccer fields are particularly popular spots for personal training sessions and pickup games when the weather's nice. Near the community pool, you can find a large gazebo that is a natural gathering point for park-goers.
Playground Areas
Kids definitely won't be bored here. The park features a large playground thoughtfully split into two sections: a gentler area for the toddler crowd and a more challenging section for older children (5-12 years). The playground sits on a sand surface, with shade sails providing some much-needed protection from the California sun.
The play area is equipped with swings, a fun hold-n-spin apparatus, talk tubes, a drum, and a rock wall that keeps the more adventurous kids entertained. You'll also find steering wheels and monkey bars scattered throughout. A nice educational touch is the alphabet play panel and letter markings along the playground wall - sneaking in a bit of learning during playtime.
Amenities and Services
If you're planning a family gathering or casual meetup, Meadowood offers picnic tables and BBQ grills to use. Just note that the large picnic area has a somewhat limited number of tables, so arriving early on busy days is your best bet. The picnic space works on a first-come, first-serve basis for groups under 50 people, and heads up - alcohol and outside vendors aren't permitted.
For organized activities, you can book certain areas in advance. Parking is straightforward with a dedicated lot on the school side and plenty of street parking options. You'll also find restroom facilities and drinking fountains across the park - always a relief when you're spending hours outdoors.
Park Layout and Environment
One of Meadowood's best features is its generous open space. The expansive grassy areas are well-suited for throwing a frisbee, tossing a football, or just letting kids run wild. While it's not heavily wooded, the open layout gives you plenty of room to spread out and find your own little spot.
The park is dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your four-legged friends along. There's steady foot traffic throughout the day, especially when Northwood High School lets out. We've always found the grounds well-maintained and clean, which makes spending time here all the more pleasant.
There's a small walking trail if you're looking for a casual stroll - nothing challenging, just a nice path to stretch your legs. The community pool within the park looks inviting, but keep in mind it's reserved exclusively for residents.
