Somerset Park

History and Origins

Somerset Park is a 3.7-acre public park located in Long Beach, California. Established in 1950, this community park offers a variety of recreational facilities and amenities for local residents.

The park's history dates back to February 19, 1944, when the Cerritos Park Association donated a portion of the former Rancho Los Cerritos for its creation. It was named after Somerset, Maine, the hometown of some members of the Bixby and Hathaway families who had settled in the area.

Somerset Park features well-maintained pathways and lush greenery, providing a serene environment for visitors. The park's layout includes sports facilities, play areas, and spaces for community gatherings.

In 1998, the park underwent renovations, including the rehabilitation of restrooms and the replacement of playground equipment. These improvements were funded by the Los Angeles County Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond Act of 1992.

These enhancements have helped maintain the park's relevance and functionality for the community.

Community Center

The Somerset Park Community Center, located within the park, offers various programs such as sports leagues, fitness classes, and youth recreation activities. The center runs specific programs Monday through Friday from 3 PM to 6 PM.

This facility further enhances the park's role as a community hub.
