Stearns Champions Park

History and Origins

Stearns Champions Park is a 22.3-acre recreational area located in Long Beach, California. The park, originally named Stearns Park, was established on land purchased by the Long Beach Water Department in 1931 for well and recharge purposes.

It was later renamed Stearns Champions Park to honor the Little League Baseball World and National Championships teams of 1992 and 1993, which had their home fields at this location.

Facilities and Amenities

The park features a variety of sports facilities and recreational amenities. It includes night-lighted basketball and volleyball courts, as well as two baseball diamonds.

There is also ample open space for picnics and other outdoor activities. The park underwent several developments over the years, including the addition of a community center in 1976 and the installation of baseball field lighting and a soccer field in 1997.

Stearns Champions Park serves as a hub for community activities and sports programs. It offers various recreational opportunities for people of all ages, making it a popular destination for local residents.

Historical Connection

The park's history is closely tied to the development of east Long Beach. It was named after Abel Stearns, who, along with Don Juan Temple, purchased Rancho Los Alamitos in the 1830s, land that now comprises part of east Long Beach.
