Trails and Nature

Lacing through the greenery is an impressive network of trails that'll satisfy your walking, jogging, or biking itch. The full trail system stretches about 8 miles if you explore both directions, connecting you to neighboring spots like Kewin Park. You've got options here - smooth asphalt paths for an easier journey or natural dirt trails if you're feeling a bit more adventurous.

Fair warning: when you venture off the paved paths, watch your step for squirrel holes that might catch your foot unaware. The shady sections along the trails are absolute lifesavers during those hot California days. And speaking of squirrels - these playful little residents provide free entertainment as they scamper about their oak tree homes.

Disc Golf Course

Perhaps the crown jewel of East La Loma is its 27-hole disc golf course that draws players from beginners to pros. The course comes in two flavors: a gentler 9-hole course near the tennis courts well-suited for newcomers, and a more demanding 18-hole course starting by the roundabout parking lot at Coffee and Scenic. There's a bit of prestige here too - the course was designed by a PGA disc golf champion and is lovingly maintained by the local Modesto Area Disc Golfers community.

Family Amenities

If you've got kids in tow, you'll appreciate the two modern children's playgrounds. The main play area was recently moved closer to the parking lot for better safety and access, featuring swing sets and climbing structures that'll keep the little ones entertained. While the equipment is in good shape, just note that parent seating is limited and there's not much shade directly over the playground - so sunscreen is your friend here.

For gatherings, a large covered picnic area with multiple tables can be reserved through the city. You'll also find additional picnic tables scattered throughout, particularly near where the kids play. Just a heads up - the picnic shelter has a pergola style rather than a solid roof, so have a backup plan if rain is in the forecast.

Sports Facilities

Sports enthusiasts haven't been forgotten at East La Loma. The tennis courts were recently resurfaced and rarely get overcrowded, making it easy to get a game in without waiting. There's also a basketball court for shooting hoops or playing a pickup game. Word has it a volleyball court is in the works too.

Yes, there are restrooms - typically located between the two disc golf courses near the playground. A bit of real talk: they're functional but basic. The stalls don't have doors, and cleanliness can be hit or miss depending on when you visit.
