About the Location

Park Overview

Alderwood Park is a neighborhood park located on the corner of Whitewood and Baxter Roads in Murrieta, California. Formerly known as Golden Cities Park, this public space is owned and maintained by the City of Murrieta.

The park spans approximately seven acres, providing a variety of recreational opportunities for local residents in a clean, safe environment. While not extensive, it provides a valuable recreational space for the surrounding community, including nearby gated neighborhoods.

Layout and Design

Alderwood Park is divided into western and eastern sections, each offering distinct features. The park's perimeter features a cement walking trail with body weight machines stationed along the route, providing opportunities for exercise and fitness.

The park is open 24 hours, though parking access may be restricted after midnight. Visitors should be aware that wildlife, including coyotes, might occasionally be spotted in the area during nighttime hours.

Dog Park

One of the park's most popular amenities is its dog park, which includes separate fenced areas for large and small dogs. The dog park features a combination of turf and decomposed granite surfaces, allowing pets to exercise and socialize safely off-leash.

For the comfort of pet owners, shaded seating areas are provided, along with dog exercise equipment, an agility course, and pet waste stations. Some visitors note that the water fountains for dogs are occasionally non-operational, so bringing water for your pet is recommended.

The dog park typically has a friendly atmosphere with regular visitors who help welcome newcomers. Tables with shade are available just outside the fenced areas for those who want to bring snacks or a picnic lunch while their dogs play.

Recreational Facilities

The park caters to sports enthusiasts with its pickleball courts. Two dedicated outdoor concrete courts are currently available, featuring permanent lines and nets, with plans to increase to three or four courts in the future. One court is available for rental, while the other operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

For basketball players, the park offers a dual half-court, though some visitors note that the rims may be bent.

The park also features tennis courts for those interested in tennis.

Amenities

Alderwood Park offers several amenities for visitors' comfort and convenience. Clean restrooms are available and open early, though they are located at some distance from the dog park and picnic areas.

The picnic area features central covered tables with shade. Some tables even come equipped with power outlets, making it convenient for extended gatherings.

Children's Area

For families with children, Alderwood Park offers a large playground area with slides, swings, and climbing equipment set in a sandbox. The playground is well-maintained, clean, and suitable for younger children.

Future Development

Future development plans for Alderwood Park include an additional playground and a recreation center as part of Phase 2. The park already features a clubhouse that receives positive reviews for its appearance.
