International Sister City Monument

Shimada Friendship Park is a 3-acre waterfront park located in Richmond, California, at the intersection of Peninsula Drive and Marina Bay Parkway. Established to commemorate the sister city relationship between Richmond and Shimada, Japan, which began in 1961, the park serves as a symbol of international friendship and cultural exchange.

The park features a central area with three large, irregularly shaped stone monuments positioned on a grassy lawn near the water's edge. The main stone monument stands upright and has the word "Friendship" inscribed in red kanji characters, along with a blue outline of Japan carved into its surface. This central stone is flanked by two smaller, slightly tilted stones.
