This pocket park is popular with local families looking to let their little ones burn off some energy.

From Forgotten to Flourishing

The park wasn't always the inviting space it is today. Once neglected and rundown, Solano Playlot got a second chance at life thanks to Solano PLAY, a grassroots group of neighbors who refused to let their community space waste away. In 2010, these dedicated locals officially adopted the park and teamed up with Richmond city officials to breathe new life into it.

Play Areas That Delight

Today's Solano Playlot offers thoughtfully designed spaces for kids of all ages. The west side houses a charming toddler play area where the littlest visitors can enjoy baby swings, a small slide ideal for tiny adventurers, a sand box for creative play, and an adorable little playhouse where imagination rules.

Bigger kids haven't been forgotten - they get their own play structure featuring various climbing challenges and two exciting slides: a covered spiral tube slide and an old-school metal straight slide that brings a touch of nostalgia. The rock climbing wall looks surprisingly realistic, and the curved ladder offers an extra challenge for more adventurous climbers.

Rounding out the playground equipment is a traditional swing set and a unique three-way teeter-totter with generous seats designed with younger children in mind.

Far From Just Play Equipment

Beyond the playground itself, you can find a modest grassy area well-suited for impromptu picnics or just letting kids run free. A wavy concrete path winds around this green space - ideal for toddlers practicing their walking skills or for parents getting some steps in while keeping an eye on the kids.

Several seating areas with tables and benches are positioned around the play area, making it comfortable to supervise playtime. Some tables even feature built-in chess and checker boards for those looking for a more strategic way to pass the time.

Practical amenities include a water fountain and a BBQ grill for community gatherings. When temperatures rise, the water hydrant feature becomes an instant hit with children looking to cool off. While compact, the park creates a safe, enclosed environment for neighborhood get-togethers and outdoor fun.

Its residential location, combined with easy access to shops and eateries along San Pablo Avenue, makes Solano Playlot a convenient spot for family outings. The only thing missing is a public restroom - something to keep in mind when planning your visit.
