Park Overview

Found in Salinas, California, Central Park stretches across 52 acres of urban greenery. Split into two distinct sections by Saratoga Creek, this park offers a variety of amenities and spaces. The beautiful trees and open spaces create a natural retreat from city life, making it a great spot where the community comes together to relax, play, and connect.

Western Section Amenities

The west side of the park features various recreational options. You'll discover both group and solo picnic spots, a children's playground with various structures for the little ones to explore, and clean public restrooms. There's also an amphitheater where local events come to life, convenient parking, two lighted tennis courts for evening matches, basketball courts for pickup games, and a Veterans Memorial honoring those who served.

At the heart of this section is the 30,000 square foot Community Recreation Center where local kids and adults participate in recreational programs year-round.

Eastern Section Facilities

Cross over Saratoga Creek to the east side, and you'll discover some notable facilities. The George F. Haines International Swim Center has long held world-class status, but some longtime locals might tell you it's evolved from its earlier days.

Sports enthusiasts gravitate toward the Bob Fatjo Sports Center, which includes Tony Sanchez Field (named after a former Parks & Recreation Department Sports/Aquatics Coordinator who clearly made an impact) and a second lighted softball field for evening games.

Tennis players appreciate the Santa Clara Tennis Center with its 8 lighted courts and practice wall - fantastic for improving your serve or rallying with friends.

Recreation Options

Central Park offers versatile recreational spaces. The expansive grassy areas invite impromptu frisbee games or peaceful afternoon reading. Kids can burn off energy at the playground while dog owners stroll the paths with their four-legged friends.

Special Displays

On certain holidays, the park transforms with a patriotic touch. Along Kiely Blvd, 57 United States flags create an impressive "Avenue of Flags" display. These massive 9' x 6' flags were donated by the Mission City Community Fund with financial support from the Veterans of Foreign Wars - creating a meaningful visual tribute on days of national significance.
