The park complements the adjacent Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.
Development Details
Spanning 21 acres, Sweetwater Heights Park is part of the larger Chula Vista Bayfront redevelopment project. It is set to be the first new park space completed in this initiative and will become the Port of San Diego's 23rd park along San Diego Bay.
The park's design draws inspiration from both nature and history, with elements honoring the area's wildlife, habitat, and the ancestral lands of the Kumeyaay People.
Construction Timeline
Construction of Sweetwater Heights Park began in October 2023, with an anticipated opening to the public in late 2024.
The park is being built just north of the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center, which is currently under construction.
