About the Location
History and Origins
Esprit Park is a 1.83-acre green space located in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco, California. Originally created in 1982 as an employee amenity for the Esprit de Corp clothing company, it was later gifted to the city and its residents when the company closed its San Francisco operations.
Layout and Features
The park features a sun-filled, groomed field surrounded by a gravel walking and running path. Stately redwood trees border the park, providing shade and a natural backdrop.
It has long been a popular spot for neighborhood residents to exercise, have picnics, walk dogs on-leash, and enjoy the outdoors.
2025 Renovation
In early 2025, Esprit Park underwent a significant renovation to better serve the growing and diverse population of the Dogpatch area. The redesigned park now includes two distinct meadows separated by an east-west concrete pathway.
The north meadow contains an off-leash dog play area, while the south meadow is designated as a dog-free zone. This design aims to balance the needs of both dog owners and families with children.
Improvements and Sustainability
The renovation also included the addition of new plantings, updated exercise equipment, and improved site furnishings.
The project aimed to make the park more durable, sustainable, and valuable to its 21st-century neighbors while preserving its natural design and feel.
