About Delano Manongs Park
A Tribute to Filipino American History
Situated in East San Jose, Delano Manongs Park might be small at just 0.57 acres, but it carries a powerful historical significance. Located where Gimelli Way meets Beechnut Drive, this park pays homage to the Filipino American farmworkers - the Delano Manongs - who courageously stood up for their rights during the pivotal 1965 Delano Grape Strike and helped shape the farmworkers' rights movement.
One of the park's most meaningful features is its interpretative sign that tells the story of these brave individuals. It's a quiet yet impactful way to preserve an essential chapter of Filipino American history that might otherwise fade from our collective memory.
Play and Picnic Spaces
The park offers a nice open turf area where you can toss a frisbee, play catch, or simply spread out a blanket and relax. If you're bringing kids along, they'll enjoy the playground designed primarily for children aged 5-12, though the little ones can usually manage with a bit of help. With its slides and various climbing structures sheltered under a covered structure, the playground stays cool even on sunny California days.
When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic areas with tables and benches. Some tables are covered, giving you options regardless of whether you're seeking sun or shade. These spots are excellent for family gatherings, birthday celebrations, or just a casual outdoor lunch.
AD4 Hour Livermore Valley Wine Tour
The Trolley is the most fun, popular, and scenic way to travel to our exceptional wineries in the Livermore Valley Wine Country, taste great wine, and see the vineyards on our beautiful rolling hills. A delicious pre-ordered deli-style lunch is served at the second winery visited.
A Neighborhood Green Haven
What Delano Manongs Park lacks in size, it makes up for in purpose. Its grassy area beside the playground provides a welcome patch of green in the urban landscape, giving neighborhood residents a place to breathe and play.
Having just opened in September 2022, everything here still has that fresh, new feel. You can find street parking nearby, and since the park is open 24 hours, you can drop by whenever suits your schedule.
This modest park represents both a community gathering space and a quiet reminder of those who fought for justice - a small but meaningful green haven in the heart of East San Jose.
