Situated in the heart of downtown San Jose, Guadalupe River Park stretches across 120 acres, creating a refreshing green corridor that winds 2.6 miles along the Guadalupe River. Since opening in 2005 as part of a flood control project, this urban park offers a respite from the surrounding concrete landscape.

Hit the Trails

The park blends natural and landscaped areas, giving you plenty of diverse scenery to enjoy. The Guadalupe River Trail is popular among locals - it works well for cycling to work, going for a morning jog, or just taking a leisurely stroll. Just a heads up: after heavy rains, some sections can get a bit muddy, so plan your footwear accordingly!

Art and Planes

As you wander through the park, you'll spot interesting public art installations that add a touch of culture to your nature experience. The park also honors San Jose's rich history with areas dedicated to the region's heritage.

For a uniquely San Jose experience, grab a bench and watch planes landing and taking off from the nearby San Jose International Airport - it's surprisingly relaxing and makes for a great break in your day.

Blooms and Harvests

The Guadalupe Gardens area features several distinct sections including the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, a Historic Orchard, and a Community Garden. If you visit during rose blooming season, you'll see an impressive display of vibrant colors and varieties.

Kid-Friendly Adventures

The Rotary Play Garden stands out as a thoughtfully designed playground that welcomes children of all abilities, with special features for kids with different needs. This isn't your standard swing-and-slide setup - think concrete slides, creative climbing structures, and interactive elements that spark imagination. The clean restrooms nearby make it practical for family outings, but on hot days, the limited shade in some areas might have you reaching for extra sunscreen.

Despite being surrounded by urban development, the park offers some surprising wildlife encounters. Keep your eyes peeled along the river for various birds and aquatic creatures.
