Chepa's Park
About Chepa's Park
A Hidden Neighborhood Treasure
Tucked away near the intersection of Custer and Stafford Streets in Santa Ana, Chepa's Park might be small at just 0.41 acres, but it plays a mighty role in the Logan Barrio community. This cozy green space provides a welcome breath of fresh air for locals looking to unwind or play close to home.
A Legacy of Local Activism
There's something special about a park with a story, and this one honors Josephine "Chepa" Andrade, a passionate Logan resident who stood up for her neighborhood when it mattered most. Chepa dedicated herself to protecting Logan from industrialization and freeway projects that threatened to change the character of this tight-knit community.
Her impact was so meaningful that the Santa Ana City Council officially recognized December 16, 2021 as Josephine "Chepa" Andrade Day - a fitting tribute to someone who truly made a difference.
What You'll Find Here
While modest in size, the park offers the essentials. Kids can burn off energy at the playground, while teens and adults often shoot hoops at the basketball court. The park is also where the annual Historic Logan Barrio Reunion takes place, bringing neighbors past and present together.
Looking Ahead
Santa Ana has plans for Chepa's Park, including the demolition and reconstruction of a new community center alongside other improvements.
These planned changes are intended to benefit the families of Logan Barrio while honoring the memory of the park's namesake.
