Jim May Park
About Jim May Park
Natural Charm
Set in Santa Maria, California, Jim May Park spreads across 23.7 acres of peaceful greenery. At its heart lies a picturesque pond that's become a little haven for local wildlife. We've spent countless moments watching the ducks paddle around from the viewing deck - it's honestly one of the most relaxing spots in the whole park.
The generous turf areas throughout give you plenty of breathing room for whatever activity strikes your fancy. Whether you're tossing a frisbee or just looking for a soft patch to stretch out with a book, these well-kept lawns are perfect. And if you've got energetic kids or a dog that needs to burn off some steam? This open space provides plenty of room to run around.
Things to Do
A smooth walking trail winds around the pond, meant for your morning jog or an evening stroll to clear your head. The paved path works great for bikes too, so you can easily get in some exercise without having to plan an elaborate outing.
If you've got little ones in tow, the playground area specifically designed for smaller children will be your saving grace. Meanwhile, the picnic facilities come complete with tables and grills - We can't think of a better spot to fire up some burgers and enjoy lunch outdoors with friends or family.
Fancy some fishing? You can cast a line into the pond, but be prepared to navigate around some of the vegetation that grows along the water's edge - finding a fantastic spot might take a bit of exploration.
Good to Know
Dog lovers, take note: while your four-legged friends are welcome here, the park isn't fully fenced. There's no separate area for different sized dogs, so keep an eye on your pet, especially if they're the adventurous type. You'll find dog waste stations with bags throughout the park - please use them!
Just a heads-up that the north side of the park sometimes collects a bit of debris, so watch your step when wandering that way.
One thing you should know - the park sits pretty close to Highway 101, which means there's a constant soundtrack of traffic noise. If you're sensitive to sound, you might want to bring headphones or earplugs for a more peaceful experience.
Getting There
The park's location just off Highway 101 makes it super easy to find, whether you're a local or just passing through Santa Maria. It's one of those convenient spots you can pop into without going too far out of your way.
