Bayer Park & Gardens
About Bayer Park & Gardens
Park Overview
Located at 1550 West Avenue in Santa Rosa, California, Bayer Park & Gardens spans 5.95 acres. This neighborhood park was established in 2007, with its design influenced by local input through community meetings in 2009. The master plan got a refresh in 2013, adding even more cool features to the mix. If you're planning a visit, the gates are open daily from 6AM to 10PM.
What Makes It Special
What makes Bayer Park distinctive is its combination of recreational spaces with agricultural elements. The heart of the park features a central plaza, surrounded by community garden areas and winding garden walking paths that let you meander through nature at your own pace.
The community gardens have expanded over the years, complemented by a rustic farm stand and a beautifully refurbished barn that adds character to the property. The gardens are a highlight - they're visually appealing and provide space for neighbors to connect and learn about urban agriculture.
Places to Play
Bayer Park offers several recreational activities. Skateboarding enthusiasts can show off their skills at the skate park with its ramps and raised edges, while basketball lovers can shoot some hoops at the half-court basketball area. For the little ones, there's a charming farm and nature-themed playground that accommodates kids of all ages.
Nature explorers will appreciate the outdoor nature discovery area - great for learning about the environment hands-on. And if you're up for some friendly competition, check out the tetherball/volleyball court.
Comfort and Convenience
When hunger strikes or you just want to relax, head to one of the picnic areas equipped with tables and barbecues. There are two reservable picnic sites for planned gatherings, while other tables operate on a first-come basis.
The park also features open grassy areas for whatever activity strikes your fancy, and adult exercise equipment for those looking to squeeze in a workout. Nature calls? Portable toilets are available and kept clean for visitors.
Getting There
The park is wheelchair friendly, with accessible parking and pathways throughout. Just note that the parking lot isn't huge, so during popular times you might need to find a spot on the street nearby.
Heads up - the park sits across from an elementary school, so expect a bit more traffic during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Community Heart
What really brings Bayer Park to life is its people. LandPaths, a local nonprofit, manages the community garden area through a partnership with the Recreation and Parks Department, creating opportunities for everyone to get their hands dirty in urban agriculture. The park occasionally hosts open house events featuring local entertainment and community organizations.
The park provides a clean, well-lit space where visitors can enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature in Santa Rosa.
