Park Overview

Bayer Park & Gardens is a 5.95-acre neighborhood park located at 1550 West Avenue in Santa Rosa, California. The park property was acquired in 2007, and its concept was created through a series of community meetings in 2009.

The master plan was later amended in 2013 to enhance the park's offerings. The park is open daily from 6AM to 10PM.

Unique Features

The park features a blend of recreational and agricultural elements, making it a unique space for community engagement and outdoor activities. It includes a central plaza, community garden areas, and garden walking paths that allow visitors to explore and enjoy nature.

The existing community garden area has been expanded, and a farm stand has been added to complement the refurbished barn on the property. Many visitors highlight the garden as particularly beautiful and mention it provides an excellent opportunity for community connection and education about growing food and flowers right in the city.

Recreational Facilities

Bayer Park & Gardens offers various recreational facilities for visitors of all ages. It includes a skate park with ramps and raised edges for skateboarding enthusiasts, a half-court basketball area for sports lovers, and a farm and nature-themed playground that's well-designed for children of all ages.

The park also features an outdoor nature discovery area, providing opportunities for environmental education and exploration. A tetherball/volleyball court is available for additional recreational options.

For those seeking relaxation or social gatherings, the park provides picnic areas with tables and barbecues. There are two picnic sites available for reservation, while other picnic tables are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The park also includes open lawn areas for various activities and adult exercise equipment for fitness enthusiasts. Portable toilets serve as the restroom facilities and are regularly maintained.

Accessibility and Parking

The park is designed to be wheelchair accessible, with accommodations for both parking and park areas. The parking lot is relatively small, and during busy times visitors may need to find street parking nearby.

The park is located across from an elementary school, so traffic may be heavier during school hours.

Community Involvement

Through an agreement with the Recreation and Parks Department, LandPaths, a local nonprofit organization, continues to operate and maintain the community garden area, fostering community involvement in urban agriculture. The park occasionally hosts open house events with entertainment and community organizations.
