About the Location

Local Nickname

Rancho Tapo Community Park is also known locally as "Lemon Park" due to its location on Lemon Drive. This family-friendly recreational area is situated at 3700 Avenida Simi in Simi Valley, California.

Veteran's Memorial

The park is home to the award-winning Veteran's Plaza, which includes a reflective pool, fountains, and memorial pilasters paying tribute to the men and women who have served the country. This serene area provides a space for reflection and remembrance.

The plaza features beautiful flags and is considered one of the park's most striking features, drawing visitors who appreciate its peaceful atmosphere and meaningful tribute to veterans.

Recreation Facilities

For those seeking active pursuits, the park boasts a 2,805-foot walking trail (just over half a mile), perfect for leisurely strolls or more vigorous exercise. The park actually offers two different walking paths - a softer dirt trail and a paved cement path that circle the grounds.

Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of the softball diamond, tennis courts, pickleball courts (which feature lighting for evening play), and basketball courts.

The park also includes three bocce ball courts and a fitness equipment area with explanatory signage for various exercises. The outdoor gym area includes bar workout equipment, providing visitors with options for strength training.

Children's Areas

Families with children will appreciate the two separate play areas, including a tot lot for younger children and a pre-teen play area. A popular feature during warmer months is the Splash Pad, which typically operates from late May through early September, providing a refreshing spot for kids to cool off.

The Splash Pad's operating hours are generally 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with a break from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM for filtration maintenance. Outdoor showers are available nearby for rinsing off after water play.

Picnic Facilities

The park offers ample space for picnics and gatherings, with both covered and uncovered picnic tables scattered throughout the grounds. Several picnic pavilions are available, some of which can be reserved for events.

The Large Picnic Pavilion is conveniently located near the playgrounds and Splash Pad, featuring tables and BBQ grills. The spacious covered area makes it ideal for larger gatherings and provides welcome shade during summer months.

Park Amenities

Two sets of clean, well-maintained restrooms are located at opposite ends of the park (east and west sides), making facilities easily accessible from anywhere in the park. The west side bathroom even includes a ball rental kiosk for visitors who want to play sports.

The park is dog-friendly, requiring dogs to remain on leash at all times. Waste bag dispensers are conveniently placed throughout the grounds, along with numerous trash cans to help maintain the park's cleanliness.

Natural Features

Visitors can enjoy the park's two scenic ponds with fountains, where ducks can often be observed. Abundant shade trees throughout the property provide relief on hot days, and squirrels can frequently be spotted in the trees around the bocce ball area.

Community Hub

Rancho Tapo Community Park functions as a central gathering place for the Simi Valley community, hosting various events and providing a green space for residents and visitors to enjoy nature and outdoor activities year-round. The park's spacious grounds can be reserved for larger events, making it a popular venue for community celebrations.
