The Park With Two Names

Locals in Simi Valley know Rancho Tapo Community Park by another name: "Lemon Park". That nickname comes from its location on Lemon Drive, though you'll find it officially at 3700 Avenida Simi. It's one of those places where families spread out picnic blankets, kids run wild, and adults find their own glimpse of peace.

A Place of Honor

One of the most moving areas of the park is the award-winning Veteran's Plaza. With its reflective pool, gentle fountains, and memorial pilasters, it creates a space that truly honors those who've served our country. There's something quite special about standing there among the beautiful flags, letting the quietness sink in - it's definitely worth taking a moment to visit during your time at the park.

Get Moving

Feel like stretching your legs? The park offers a 2,805-foot walking trail (just over half a mile) that loops around the grounds. You've actually got options here - take the softer dirt trail if your knees prefer it, or stick to the paved cement path. Either way, it's great for a morning jog or an evening stroll.

Sports enthusiasts won't be disappointed with the softball diamond, tennis courts, and pickleball courts (complete with lights for those evening games). There's also basketball courts for pickup games and three bocce ball courts if you're looking for something a bit different.

If you're into fitness, check out the outdoor gym area with its bar equipment and various exercise stations. Each piece comes with explanatory signage, so you'll know exactly how to use it for your workout.

Kid-Friendly Zones

Got little ones in tow? The park features two separate play areas - a tot lot designed specifically for younger children and a pre-teen play area where older kids can burn off energy.

During the warmer months, the Splash Pad becomes the park's main attraction. Operating typically from late May through early September, it's where kids flock to cool off. The pad runs from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with a one-hour maintenance break at 2:30 PM. There are outdoor showers nearby for a quick rinse afterward - a thoughtful touch for parents who don't want soggy car seats.

Gather & Feast

Picnic opportunities abound throughout the grounds with both covered and uncovered tables scattered strategically. If you're planning something bigger, several picnic pavilions can be reserved for events.

The Large Picnic Pavilion sits conveniently close to the playgrounds and Splash Pad. With multiple tables and BBQ grills under its spacious covering, it provides welcome shade during those hot summer gatherings and makes corralling excited kids between play and meals much easier.

The Practical Stuff

You'll discover clean restrooms at both the east and west ends of the park, so you're never too far from facilities. The west side bathroom even includes a ball rental kiosk - handy if you've forgotten your basketball or tennis racket at home.

Dog lovers, your furry friends are welcome but must stay leashed. The park makes it easy to be a responsible pet owner with waste bag dispensers positioned within the grounds and plenty of trash cans nearby.
