About the Location

Historic Significance

Peña Adobe Regional Park is a 470-acre natural area located in Vacaville, California, just off Interstate 80. The park is steeped in history, containing the county's oldest structure, the Peña Adobe home, which was built over 160 years ago by one of the early inhabitants of Solano County.

Natural Environment

The park offers a diverse landscape of rolling hills, oak woodlands, and open grasslands, providing visitors with scenic views and numerous recreational opportunities. A network of multi-use trails winds through the park, suitable for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

These trails range from easy walks around the lagoon to more challenging routes that ascend to higher elevations, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding area.

Water Features

At the heart of the park lies Lagoon Lake, a 100-acre body of water that allows for non-motorized boating and fishing. The lake area is popular for picnicking and provides a serene setting for nature observation, particularly bird watching.

Adjacent to the lake, visitors can find picnic areas equipped with tables and barbecue grills.

Recreational Facilities

Peña Adobe Regional Park also features several unique attractions, including an archery range, a 27-hole disc golf course, and a large enclosed dog park spanning 30,000 square feet. The park hosts educational programs and events, particularly at the historic Peña Adobe home and the Mowers-Goheen Museum, which showcase the area's rich cultural heritage.

The park is open year-round from 7:30AM to 7:30PM, offering visitors a chance to experience the changing seasons in a natural setting. While there is a small fee for parking, the park remains an accessible and affordable option for outdoor recreation in the Vacaville area.
