About Grant Mahoney Park in Vallejo
Grant Mahony Park is a public recreational area located in Vallejo, California. Situated near the intersection of Mariposa and Illinois Streets, this park offers a variety of features for visitors of all ages. The park is named after Grant Mahony, a Vallejo veteran and World War II ace combat pilot war hero.
One of the park's notable features is the Seed of Life Labyrinth, which opened on July 31, 2020. This 35-foot diameter circular labyrinth, designed by Master Labyrinth Builder Lars Howlett, is based on the medieval 7-circuit Chartres Essence pattern. The labyrinth is surrounded by sycamore trees that provide shade on sunny days, making it an ideal spot for walking meditation and stress reduction.
Adjacent to the labyrinth is the Grant Mahony rose garden, offering a beautiful floral display for park visitors. The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) has added benches and lighting around the labyrinth's perimeter, enhancing the area for relaxation and enjoyment.
The park features a children's play area with modern equipment, including a soft mat surface to protect children from falls. There are also open turf areas suitable for various activities and picnicking. The park's grounds are well-maintained and clean, providing a pleasant environment for community gatherings and outdoor recreation.
Grant Mahony Park is open from dawn to dusk, offering ample time for visitors to enjoy its amenities throughout the day.
