About the Location

Recreational Facilities

Wardlaw Park offers a variety of recreational options. This multi-purpose recreational area brings together a rather unique mix of outdoor spaces. Whether you're interested in the skate park, the BMX area, or taking your dog to the dog park, there are different spaces to enjoy various activities.

If you're more into casual outdoor enjoyment, the park's walking and biking trails connect to the Blue Rock Springs Corridor, fantastic for a leisurely stroll or a more ambitious nature excursion.

Skate and Bike Section

The skate and bike section opened back in April 2006 and spans a generous 6,900 square feet. What makes this area special is its thoughtful hybrid design that features a multi-lobed concrete bowl alongside a slab area with modular features.

There's something kind of beautiful about how this space came to be - the result of five public meetings spread over two years where actual skaters and BMX riders helped shape the plans. We love that they created distinct zones for different skill levels, so beginners can learn without feeling intimidated while intermediate riders can challenge themselves without worry. It creates this natural flow where everyone can progress at their own pace.

Dog Park Features

The dog park here is thoughtfully divided into two main areas: a smaller, more intimate enclosure for the little guys, seniors, and the more timid pups, and a larger space where the energetic bigger dogs can really stretch their legs and make friends.

You'll discover watering and washing facilities shared between both areas, with a smart drainage system that treats water multiple times before it enters the storm system. The spacious grassy areas are a highlight, giving dogs plenty of room to sprint and play to their hearts' content.

There are benches and shaded areas scattered throughout, so you can relax comfortably while keeping an eye on your furry companion. Waste stations with bags are available, however it's always smart to bring some extras just in case.

Note that the dog park closes every Wednesday from 6 AM to 2 PM for regular maintenance.

Additional Amenities

Beyond the specialized areas, Wardlaw offers the essentials that make any park visit enjoyable. Picnic areas with tables are distributed throughout, including some within the dog park sections - excellent for enjoying lunch while your dog makes new friends.

The park has restroom facilities typically open from 8 AM to 3 PM daily. Getting around is easy with a convenient parking lot and a bridge that connects to the Blue Rock Springs Corridor.

Community Atmosphere

What might not be obvious from just looking at the facilities is the warm community feel that's developed here. This is especially true in the dog park, where regular visitors and their pets often form impromptu social circles and friendships.

The park's design works with the natural sloping terrain to create distinct spaces with their own character. We find it rather charming how the curved landscape means you can't see the entire park from any one spot - it creates these cozy, more intimate pockets within the larger space that somehow make a public park feel like a series of connected hideaways.
