About Cutler Park

A Touch of History

Positioned in Visalia lies Cutler Park, a wooded haven with roots stretching back to 1919. That's when John Cutler Jr. gifted this tree-filled parcel to Tulare County, naming it after his father, John Cutler - not just any settler, but an 1852 pioneer who made his mark as both a prominent farmer and one of the county's first judges.

Natural Beauty Abounds

At 70 acres, this park stands as one of Central California's largest remaining Valley Oak Woodlands. The landscape here feels almost magical, with majestic oaks creating a natural canopy while the gentle Saint John's River meanders through the grounds.

This riverside ecosystem is a haven for local wildlife, making it a prime spot if you're into birding or nature photography. When summer temperatures soar, the dense shade from centuries-old oaks offers blessed relief from the heat.

The river itself adds another layer of tranquility to your visit. Its waters flow calmly, remaining shallow enough in most spots for safe wading - great for cooling off when the mercury rises.

Things to Do

You can find plenty of ways to spend your time here. The park houses numerous picnic areas complete with tables and arbors (which you can reserve ahead of time), plus playgrounds where kids can burn off energy.

Since 2021, disc golf enthusiasts have enjoyed the park's dedicated course - a relatively new but popular addition. Beyond organized activities, the sprawling grassy areas invite impromptu games of frisbee, casual sports, or simply lounging beneath the oak canopy with a good book.

What to Expect

Scattered throughout the grounds are several picnic pavilions available for reservation or first-come use. You'll also find individual tables and grilling areas strategically placed to offer both sun and shade, depending on your preference.

Restroom facilities are conveniently located across the park. And good news for dog owners - your leashed companions are welcome here, making this a favorite spot for daily walks with furry friends.

Planning Your Visit

A vehicle entry fee of $5 applies for daily visits, but frequent visitors might consider the $25 annual pass for better value. Note that the park closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but you can still access the grounds on foot by parking outside and walking in.

Recent improvements have refreshed the park's amenities, including updated tables, new sprinkler systems, and additional tree plantings that continue to enhance this natural sanctuary - ensuring Cutler Park remains a cherished green space for generations to come.
