If you're into sports, you'll love what Cortez Park has to offer. The beautifully landscaped baseball diamonds aren't just pretty to look at - they're the home turf for the West Covina American Little League. No matter if you're watching your kid's game or just tossing a ball around with friends, these fields provide a nice space to play.

Beyond baseball, there's a football field where youth football and flag football bring weekend energy to the park. When the sun starts to set, don't worry - the fields light up so the fun doesn't have to stop. Just a heads up though, the football field lighting can be a bit dim after dark, so you might want to wrap up those evening games a little earlier.

Playground Area

Got kids? The modern playground here is a hit with the younger crowd. The multi-story play structure gives children plenty of climbing, sliding, and exploring opportunities in a safe environment. Kids especially love the fire station-themed design - it's a real imagination starter!

Keep in mind that the equipment is better suited for children 5 and up, as some of the platforms are pretty high off the ground. The good news is that the playground stays clean and well-maintained, so you can relax a bit while the little ones burn off some energy.

Walking Paths and Green Spaces

Sometimes you just need to escape the concrete jungle, and Cortez Park offers a peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty. The lush greenery creates an ideal backdrop for your morning jog or afternoon stroll.

One thing that makes this park stand out is its wavy landscape with gentle slopes and connecting stairs between different levels. It's not just visually interesting - it actually makes walking more fun and adds a little extra workout to your routine. The longer pathways are well-suited for a proper walk or run, and thanks to the abundance of large trees, you'll find plenty of shady spots to cool down even on the hottest days.

The sprawling green spaces invite you to spread out a blanket and relax, read a book, or just take in the scenery. If you're lucky, you might spot some squirrels and other little critters going about their day in their natural habitat.

Picnic and Gathering Areas

Planning a get-together? Cortez Park has picnic tables scattered around the grounds. For those bigger gatherings where you need protection from the elements, there are three covered picnic areas that make excellent spots for birthday parties and family reunions.

Feel like grilling? One of the covered areas comes equipped with two charcoal grills, great for cooking up some burgers and hot dogs. The park's generous layout means you won't feel crowded, even when multiple groups are enjoying the space at the same time.

Amenities

The practical stuff matters too, and Cortez Park doesn't skimp on the basics. You'll come across restrooms near the playground on the lower level of the park - though they can get a bit overwhelmed during busy times or big events.

Parking is available in two lots, one at the upper level and another at the lower level. Just be aware that spaces fill up quickly during sporting events and weekends. If the lots are full, you can usually find street parking along Cortez Street and Citrus Avenue.

Dog lovers will be happy to know the park is dog-friendly. Many people bring their four-legged friends for walks, and there are conveniently placed dog waste bag stations to help keep the grounds clean.

West Covina's pleasant climate means you can enjoy the park year-round. And for the senior crowd, the park's location near the West Covina Senior Center makes it a convenient place to get some fresh air and exercise after center activities.
