Historical Significance

The park was renamed in 1997 to honor Admiral Arleigh A. Burke, a distinguished naval officer who served during World War II and the Korean War. In October 2001, a dedication ceremony was held for a memorial within the park.

The memorial includes a 12-foot, 26,000-pound anchor from a World War II destroyer, a memorial wall containing a bronze relief sculpture of the admiral, and a plaque with his biography.
