About the Location
Natural Setting
Positioned in northern El Paso County, Fox Run Regional Park spans 417 acres of pure Colorado beauty, just a short three-mile jaunt east of Interstate 25 and Baptist Road. Walking through this park, you're surrounded by thick ponderosa pines that frame spectacular views of Pikes Peak and the surrounding mountains.
There's something magical about the tranquility here. The peaceful, wooded landscape offers a cool, shaded retreat during those scorching summer days, while showcasing nature's changing masterpiece throughout the seasons. And that distinctive ponderosa pine scent? It's like nature's own aromatherapy - something you'll notice the moment you step onto the grounds.
Trails and Outdoor Exploration
Lacing through the park are four miles of multi-use trails that meander through the Fallen Timbers area. The paths accommodate casual strolling, jogging, or biking. When winter blankets the area, the park's position near the Palmer Divide creates perfect conditions for snow-shoeing and cross-country skiing adventures.
You'll appreciate how well-maintained these trails are - they dry quickly after rain and lack those annoying hazards like loose gravel or trip-inducing exposed roots. The gentle slopes make them accessible for most ability levels. Along the way, interpretive signs offer fascinating tidbits about the local ecosystem, turning your walk into an educational experience.
Two charming bodies of water, Aspen Lake and Spruce Lake, add to the park's picturesque charm. These ponds are home to colorful koi fish and turtles that seem to pose for photos. For a bird's-eye view, head up to Timber Ridge where you can gaze down at these serene lakes from a scenic overlook.
Amenities
Beyond its natural beauty, Fox Run features multi-use fields, playgrounds, and five picnic pavilions suitable for family gatherings or community sports. The pavilions can be reserved for special occasions and come with picnic tables and electrical access - meant for that family reunion or birthday celebration.
Two playgrounds sit at the road split, offering modern equipment for kids of different ages. One playground features a rock climbing wall, monkey bars, and slides that younger children especially enjoy.
Dog owners, rejoice! The park includes a spacious dog park with separate areas for large and small four-legged friends. It's well-shaded and features rolling hills, making it one of the more popular canine hangouts in the Colorado Springs area.
You'll also find volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and expansive fields great for impromptu games of soccer, football, frisbee, or whatever sport strikes your fancy.
The park's natural beauty makes it a popular wedding venue, hosting over 100 ceremonies annually at its dedicated wedding gazebo. Note that as of September 2023, the Wedding Gazebo area is closed for construction and redesign, including the draining and relining of Aspen Lake. This work is expected to continue through the end of 2025.
Seasonal Information
Fox Run welcomes visitors year-round from 5AM to 9PM daily. Keep in mind that some restroom facilities close during winter months (November 1 to March 31), but portable toilets remain available.
Thanks to its higher elevation, the park typically runs about 10 degrees cooler than Colorado Springs - a refreshing escape during summer heat waves. During warmer months, be aware that wasp activity increases, and you'll likely share the space with more fellow nature enthusiasts.
The park also hosts seasonal events including summer outdoor concerts for the community.
