Located in Denver, Colorado, Sunset Park spans a generous 21 acres of urban greenspace. True to its name, the park offers a gorgeous overlook of Lakewood Gulch where you can catch some breathtaking sunsets. With tree-lined streets creating a natural border, this tranquil retreat has earned a special place in the hearts of locals who often consider it one of the area's quiet locations.

Recreation Facilities

No matter if you're looking to burn some energy or just enjoy a peaceful afternoon, Sunset Park has something for everyone. The colorful playground is a hit with families, featuring an assortment of climbing structures and slides that keep the little ones entertained for hours. Both baby swings and regular swings accommodate children of different ages, while sand pits invite creative digging adventures - all comfortably shaded by the park's mature trees.

Sports fans aren't left out either. The park houses well-maintained tennis courts for those looking to work on their serve, plus a half-court basketball court with one hoop conveniently situated near the parking lot. Need more space? The covered shelter area comes equipped with three tables and a grill - ideal for birthday celebrations, family reunions, or just a weekend cookout with friends. Throughout the grounds, you'll find several shaded picnic tables where you can enjoy a packed lunch or catch up on some reading. Parents will appreciate the bench in the playground area that offers a spot to relax while keeping an eye on the kids.

Note that the park doesn't have permanent restrooms, but a seasonal port-a-let is available when you need it.

Recent Improvements

2024 brought some welcome upgrades to Sunset Park, focusing on making the space more inclusive and secure. The playground now features ADA-compliant engineered wood fiber as safety surfacing, along with a fully ADA-compliant access ramp ensuring everyone can enjoy what the park has to offer.

The renovation also included replacing two worn-out spring toys with fresh, updated versions, keeping the play environment both fun and safe for children.
